I was listening to Steinberg yesterday, Pat commented in his opinion he felt "Huska" and "Love" are are very close. With a slight edge to "Love"

Muller of the internal candidates was third.

If Wills is predicting Huska that's reassuring that it won't be Huska.

Conroy following the footsteps of Tre? Huska and Muller should be gone at this point. Why are we keeping any of the existing coaching staff?

Well Sutter was the problem according to many and the team was near best in the league in all possession stats, so there may still be some value in the coaching staff.

Contracts are in place until June 30, no harm interviewing all of the internal candidates,

I would think, it does not mean they are in the lead to be hired etc.

Since the interviews have not even started.

To Jiri's point, as soon as Wills said he liked Huska I immediately thought to myself "of course he does".

He just seems to latch on to long shots or illogical/unpopular opinions.

Is Huska a good coach? Sure. Is eh the right guy to slide over and take on the head coach duties? Nope.

Like Sec214 said, the room will be cleared out. A reset is in order. Muller will be gone, Huska will be gone and MacLean will be gone. You need a new voice, not the good cop trying to be your buddy.

Huska became the coach of the Heat in 2014. Nearly every prospect on the team regressed under Huska. Reinhart, Poirier, Baertschi, Granlund, Hanowski, Knight, all regressed. In other words, every actual forward prospect at the time saw regression.

This was a while ago, and he may have improved. But he also hasn't won anything since that time. He shouldn't be in the head coach conversation.

I just hope the club allows whoever is HC to choose who he wants on his staff, on the bench and up in the press box.

Its the one position where you need everyone in lockstep to get the most out of the roster.

I don't know which coach would be the best hire and I'm not going to pretend like I do, the way some people here are lol.

I just hope the Flames finally get it right.

Get somebody who has strong systems, makes smart in game adjustments, can push all the players buttons and get the most out of them without them getting frustrated and tuning him outing short amount of time and will hopefully be the Flames coach for the next 5+ years.

Duhatschek just came out with an article in the Athletic, some interesting thoughts-

Quote:
The Flames have three worthy internal candidates — assistant coaches Ryan Huska and Kirk Muller, and in the minors the two-time AHL coach of the year in Mitch Love.

If they extend the search beyond their own organization, you’d think Alex Tanguay, currently an assistant in Detroit, would be at or near the top of the list. Tanguay and Iginla had a long successful playing partnership in Calgary.

Quote:
If I were handicapping the coaching race, I would put Huska at the top of the list. He was a finalist for the Detroit job that went to Derek Lalonde last summer.
Quote:
Love’s resume is impressive but I would like to see him work on an NHL staff before taking the next step.
Quote:
Tanguay is the wild card as someone that would fit in nicely with a front office that includes Conroy and maybe eventually Iginla.

I don’t know how well Tanguay would be at making decisions. Probably would just the buck to Iginla

I don't know much about what Huska's responsibilities were last season, but Muller, IMHO, not worthy at all. Just look at our PP, he didn't or couldn't do anything to fix, that alone, don't want him back. And him being the associate HC, he could not be the buffer between Sutter and the players.

I get Huska had a good pk but how does he unlock our offensive game and turn it around.

He may be a good defensive coach but we need a clean slate with coaches as well.

Hearing he's the leading candidate is very disappointing.

I wonder if we could see Huska as HC, Tanguay as Associate Coach, and Love as Assistant?

Love might also want to kick a few tires elsewhere.

Knowing what we know about Sutter, how much autonomy do we think Mueller actually had with the PP? My guess is very little.

I would be very surprised if he’s the guy though. I think that hire was basically finding the nicest most positive guy possible to counter balance Sutter. Guess that didn’t really work.

It's been trash outside Sutter as well.

The Toronto Marlies have parted ways with their coach Greg Moore. While perhaps a lateral move, if Brad Treliving ends up in Toronto, Love could certainly be considered a "Treliving Guy."

Or Huska for that matter.
