Maybe to be an associate coach?

Could it be that Darryl was also a bit jilted by Johnny and Tkachuk leaving town? He did come back to the club probably in part because of them. They were the exciting part about the team when he came in, and he talked about how we had exciting pieces. Maybe what we saw last season was in part his lack of passion for the resulting product.

Why sign a 2 year extension if you don't want to be here?
Him being ok with being fired and walking away with $8 million doesn't sit right if he felt the game passed him by. So much for the he came back from the goodness of his heart.

Lol are you turning down a 2 year, $8M dollar contract?
When he signed it, there was a lot of optimism around the team and moves and he was coming off of an amazing season. Most of the issues arose closer to mid-season.

Lol no I get it no one is turning down free money even if you don't believe you are the best man for the job.
Its just hilarious that some poster when Walsh tweeted Sutter was sucking the fun out of the team said Sutter didn't have to come back and was basically donating his time because hes one of the few people in the world who loves this city.
Same people blasting Huberdeau and everyone for being the worst and stealing money. Just don't see those same people popping up here now that the truth was uncovered and he walked away with 8 million.

Great example of a what about post. What exactly are you arguing here? Of course Sutter wasn’t “donating his time”, or “coaching out of the goodness of his heart”.
Maybe post less often and spend time thinking.

One day in the future AI will have turned on humans and destroyed the world and Paulie Walnuts will still be posting furiously several times a day about Sutter.

whoever is the coach they gotta be skill and offense over grit and someone who let's the star players play.
imo Sutters principles outweigh giving the team the best chance to win, he would rather lose than adapt

at some point money outweighs wanting to be there, $8m is obviously too good to turn down, and we had an amazing season. It obviously was the right choice as he is now getting paid NOT to work, that would be amazing.

Hearing from really good sources that Sutter was a real big problem this year. Not just the players. The support staff were not good with him.
When Murray Edwards pays someone 8 megs to not work at his company anymore it’s a huge problem.
I almost worry if sutts has something going on.

I think it has more to do with state of mind after winning the Adams, as Rhett said on his show. That was like a multiplier on Sutter's normal tactics.
i.e. if he was a hard ass before, after getting the award he would be 10x the hard ass.

I am not sure if this was posted yet, but Conroy talked to TSN about a lot of things, but mentioned that they will likely start coach interviews next week. He said that they are in the process of reaching out to other teams to ask permission to talk to people. With all the smoke around Tanguay, I have to believe that he is one of those guys. Possibly Gallant as well I'd imagine, although I hope they don't go that way. Especially considering that Conroy talks about issues this past season with deployment, because that seemed to be the biggest complaint about Gallant in Vegas and New York.

I want the next HC to preferably be Brunette but if not him I would go with Tanguay. I want a players coach that encourages offensive creativity for this group. My top 3 for HC is probably:
1. Brunette
2. Tanguay
3. Savard
I would offer Love the associate coach title and put him in charge of the defence and penalty kill. I would not bring back any of the assistant coaches from last year.

Say what you want about Darryl but he's a very smart man. He has to know that he played a big role in what happened this season. Let's not forget he realized in 2006 that he was losing effectiveness with the locker as even though they had a successful regular season it was a grind on the team and you could see at the end of the Ducks series that the team just looked cooked. He probably realized at the end of the season that him coming back to this group was not going to yield the desired results. I don't know what was going through his head this season but I will always be grateful for the good times the franchise had under his involvement.

Leslie and Steinberg both seem to have Huska as the favourite with Muller (yuck) and Love 2 and 3. Leslie actually doesn't think Love is 3 but it's Tanguay who is.

Man if this is the case I will try real hard to stay optimistic but it's just so Calgary Flames to pass on a hot head coach prospect in their own backyard for a meh candidate. I could see passing on Love if they want a an experienced head coach but Huska? Not sure what Huska has done to merit consideration as his AHL record was not very good and in the WHL he had the one championship season and a lot of early playoff exits. Love may have not coached as long but his winning percentage in the WHL and AHL is a ridiculous .700. I also don't think it's a great idea to have one of the guys that just served on the bench under a coach they hated take the head coach position as I think the players would rather appreciate a fresh face as head coach. I don't see what Muller brought to the team as the powerplay was not good at all this season. If that's the direction they are going I would rather Gallant or Brunette. Also not sure why Tangs would want to make a lateral move to work under a rookie head coach where things could go bad. Staying with the Wings would likely be better for him as they are trending up.

Steinberg has Love with a slight edge over Huska. Wills had Huska. Here is the problem with these guys, they schill for who their buddies are. Steinberg talks with Love every Monday so he has him as the favourite slightly over Huska whom he also is buddies with. Wills hadn't had much relationship with Love so he is schilling for his good buddy Huska. Neither of these guys care who is the best fit for the roster, they just want their friends to get the job. I think there is pretty much no chance Huska gets the job, Conroy and Maloney have both said they want the team to be more creative and offensive. If you thought the team struggled to score last year under Sutter you are in for a surprise how much more they can struggle under a Huska coached team. I can't see Connie being that clueless.
