Is it "Tree" or "Tre"?

Obviously it's pronounced "tree", but his name is "Treliving", with only one 'e'.

He's also a tall guy, so maybe "Tree" is appropriate, but it also kind of looks wrong.

"Tre" would normally be pronounced "trey", and we know that's definitely wrong, but I'm pretty sure most people here know that's shorthand for Treliving and not Tre Roberson who plays for the Stampeders.

I suppose either is better than GMBT. I don't know why I irrationally hate that; it's clever when you're talking about George McPhee (GMGM, which is the first time I've seen it), but nowhere else do you put the initials of their position followed by the initials of their name. "Hey, GDW made his debut last night, as did RWMC."

Contracts extended after yet another successful season. They've earned it.

If you were a Tre, what kind of Tre would you be?

Huberdeau should be looking at the mirror and not his head coach for his season.
Sure Huberdeau should look in the mirror and I am sure he will.

I really wonder whether Sutter will look in the mirror? To have that roster and have the AHL MVP and still not make the playoffs. One has to wonder if the coach thinks he is even partially responsible? Curious to see what he says on garbage day. Doubt there will be much introspection.

I get some of the dislike for Sutter, I really do. By many accounts, he is an abrasive coach to the players and they don't like it. Some of his deployment decisions baffle a layman like me. But as far as systems and what he asks players to do, it's not off the grid compared to most coaches. If Huberdeau was really as good as people think, and really a $10.5 million player, he would have been able to adjust and at least be a PPG. I think he just isn't as adaptive or creative as he gets credit for. He is a skilled, but high maintenance player that needs to have lines crafted around him to make him good, but not the kind of player that elevates others, which is unfortunate considering the contract he received.

Having said all that, the only solution might be to cater to him in this regard, because that contract ain't going anywhere, and Sutter is not the coach who will cater to one player. Maybe Sutter has to go for that reason, but not because he isn't a good coach.
Mike Hoffman literally had a 35% increase in scoring the years he played with Huberdeau.

Duclair had his best season ever…..

But Huberdeau does not elevate the players around him…..

Obviously everyone loves Connie the person, so it would be nice to have his presence back. I have no opinion on Maloney because I don’t know how much sway he has in player personnel. But to me, the pro scouts and decision makers on the roster shouldn’t be allowed to have a say anymore.

New people need to be brought in who understand the nuances of the game and execute better in terms of roster construction. Even if this team doesn’t to the drafting route, but instead the UFA/trade route. There’s no excuse for the amount of misfires this organization has had with their pro scouting. A lot of their poor decisions and lack of vision held this team back from achieving greater heights.

I think this is actually a pretty key question. I don't expect him to do a lot of it in public, but some contrition would be the graceful move.

But behind closed doors, he has to be accountable for his decision making. If you get the sense that he understands what his fumbles were and wants an opportunity to do a better job, that's one thing. If his attitude is that this season is everyone else's fault but his, it's a problem. There's a lot of smart hockey people that work for the flames despite their dysfunction. They need to have a voice here.

I think it’s weird that some people on here automatically think Conroy is gonna be a bad GM if he replaces Tre. At least give the guy a chance

It makes sense it Tre is coming back but if they go in another direction, the new guy should have been able to have a say on who he felt would be best. I guess one of the 2 could be new gm if Tre leaves , but I would have liked ownership to at least look outside of organization.

If Hextall gets fired soon, I think Tree is going to the Pens to work with Burke.

It would certainly render tomorrow's exit interviews pretty meaningless if decisions for management and retaining the coach have already been made. I'm not sure I'd feel all that positive about how constructive the interviews would be if I was a player.

Kind of shocked about Burkie. Thought he would get a longer look especially since the team is probably needing a re-tool. 17 straight years of playoffs is an impressive run but had to end sooner or later. Crosby and Malkin aren't getting any younger.

I’ve never thought exit interviews were about asking the players who should be coach or GM. A big part is focusing on what they need to do be better next season.

Is it possible that they might want the GM and assistants to be in place with a job security and let them decide if Sutter returns?

Surprised at a lot of the reactions here - I don't think these extensions who anything about Tre's future (if true of course).

GM searches are rarely a quick thing, and you need some degree of institutional memory in the interim.

For a new GM to bring in their 'guys', those guys have to be available...and if they're actually good, they probably aren't immediately available.
