Kadri has put up good numbers despite him making frustrating decisions on the ice. I don’t think anyone expected him to repeat his 87 point season. Just be a 50-60 point center which is what he’s on pace for. Huby is currently having a 75 point decrease from last year. It’s not even close. It’s Huberdeau

Good teams are considered good because they win, Blake.
That does sound about right actually.

This team are league leaders in hitting the posts. To do it as much as they have means they are doing enough offensively in generating chances; considering statistically they are middle of the pack for goals for.

Their problem is finishing. And maybe that does come down to talent in a sense. But for a team that lacks top end of it, they're doing what they should be doing. Just not getting the results.

But if this Markstrom tonight was around for most of the season, Flames would most likely be comfortably leading the division right now.

It's just been a season of things not working out well.

And let me add that does not mean I think you role with the same team next season. I think this should be an offseason of retooling. Keep players that are planned to be around for a while. Off load the others to attain future assets. This organization needs to get a lot more serious in building from within. It has started already since some prospects are on the cusp of graduating, but even more emphasis can be applied to brew the next batch, and have it be continuous.

Of course Jarnkrok, who was totally useless when he was a Flame, gets the game winner.

I hate the Huberdeau and Kadri signings more than any moves this team has ever made.

Franchise wrecking contracts.

No more sugar coating this disaster.
Yet in the off-season he was labelled as GM of the year. I don’t like these guys either but a very large majority of fans on this board applauded these moves (myself included). It didn’t work but at the time they were labelled as dynamite moves. How much can the GM do when the players severely underperform?

Also what’s the definition of success for a GM? Because if it’s winning a cup then all of his his colleagues except one fail at that goal as well.

There is definitely merit to get rid of him as a lot of his moves have failed. But he’s tried his best to keep this team competitive especially after a disastrous offseason that saw our two elite players leave.

My point is that I think a lot of his players let him down BIG time. Neale, Brouwer, Kadri, Huberdeau, Markstrom (to a certain extent - this season) but I’m willing to bet people welcomed these players (mixed feelings on Brouwer) and thought they were good acquisitions. They just didn’t perform to the level required. Is that the GM’s fault? I’m not so sure.

Maybe hes excited by the prospect of going to a contender and doesn't want to change managements hearts last minute

Hey Darryl; let's put Lucic out against Matthews. Show em, how smart we are in Alberta.

It's Kadri for me. Holds on to the puck way too long and makes baffling decisions. There's no rhyme or reason to where he's going on the ice and he has no ability to use his wingers. Not sure what we can expect from Huberdeau with a guy like that on the line.

Kadri is definitely skillful but it just seems wasted on the ice. He can't seem to generate as much offensive possession as would be expected.

Seriously, Huberdeau was fine tonight, Kadri, not so much. Huberdeau made great passes, was hard on the puck and solid in his own zone. Kadri just ignores his linemates, fires from all over with low percentage shots and doesn't seem to think a lot. He needs to gain the line, give the puck to Huberdeau and then make a line to the net.

Nort much of a protest form anyone one the ice though, and Markstrom is quick to do so if he thinks there was interference.

It's tough when Huberdeau has the puck and no one to pass too cause they are all sticking to the boards no one is in front of the net but 3 Leafs

It is a toss-up. Kadri has tunnel-vision, is too selfish too often, and can be guilty of taking selfish penalties. Huberdeau keeps trying low-percentage and usually unnecessary passes through traffic.

Meh.. they are going to both be Flames for years to come barring some unforeseen event. Just hope that next season they both pick up their games and become better players.

I have to say that I do miss the smaller of the two Johnny Waters.

How was he supposed to score as a Flame if he never got a chance to play against Markstrom?

Tre needed one more game to see what kind of team we had before deciding to buy or sell. New data suggests we are a team that loses to backup goalies by a goal. But our goalie doesn’t suck. Also we could use some more goals.

"we're a really good team that doesn't know how to win"

Sounds like an Oilers quote from previous years.

I for one believe Huberdeau needs a Lindhol. To center him and his protégé. Or try Backlund. Someone who understands developing play a little more than Kadri.
