Do you outright ban political discussion or do you need individual threads on issues?

How would they differentiate what is political?

Flames arena?
Road construction?
Cycling thread talking about bike lanes?
Health care?

One idea I had was you can’t use party or people names so discussion would have to be about an issue or policy rather than Trudeau sucks.

Scorpion is barely an adult, so the swear filter is there to protect his innocence.

Clearly you’ve never accessed CP through Tapatalk. It adds that modern app feel that the kids dig.

Why get rid of one of the few meaningful topics of discussion? Because it leads to controversy? If you don't like politics threads, stay out of them. I think they are valuable, and I'm sure those who frequent them are constantly learning and keeping up to date on meaningful issues.

Bro, your entire post set in this thread is irony. 50% of your forum fame comes from posting post game videos of a beautiful woman in scant clothes superimposed with flames images. Is this not a teenage behaviour? I enjoy it personally. Stop acting high and mighty my friend, we're all wallowing in the mud here.

What we need is an entirely new Off Topic sub section. Call it the “The Back Alley” or whatever. Everything goes. Nothing off limits!

People keep think that Yohos content is somehow upsetting. It isn’t. That misses the point. It’s the discussion that follows a Yoho post which Yoho doesn’t participate in that needs to stop as it details whatever conversation was happening. This thread effectively is occuring once a week in each politics thread.

An individual ignoring Yoho doesn’t change the mess that is occurring so how would you propose to fix the conversation ruining mess that occurs and how would you communicate and discuss how to improve the discourse?
It is individuals getting annoyed with Yoho that is causing the issue. Some people can't help themselves. Like moths to a flame, they get sucked into his trolling, then shock-horror when he confounds their expectations that this time he'll finally reply and actually discuss the bullsh-t he posts, they get pissed off and threads end up getting derailed. If you find Yoho annoying, which it's hard not to when he's such a f-cking idiot, then use the ignore list feature. You aren't missing out on much, and -- by his own admission -- he has plenty of you on ignore already, so you're just returning the favour.

It's why I have been advocating for people to put Yoho on ignore, and have not explicitly called for a forum-wide banning.

He gets to continue to spam Twitter links and contribute absolutely zero to any discussions -- as is the case today -- and we don't have threads randomly getting sidetracked by discussion about Yoho's posts being a waste of server bandwidth. Win-win.

Certainly not Fuzz's garage that likely doesn't even exist. He just grabbed stock photos from the internet to save himself embarrassment.

I'm pretty sure that is adult content for adults.

How about adding his user name, everyone’s user name, to the swear filter. You can still respond to posts but it will get rid of all the meta-posts talking about other users. Sliver would appreciate that this week too.

Getting rid of the politics discussions would be a disaster at this point because at least those few discussions keep all the comments in one place and for the most part it doesn't permeate into other areas. Imagine the Gear Grinder discussion filled with anti-UCP posts because there is no other dedicated place to discuss their faults.

I forgot to mention the forums I'm talking about banned political discussion completely. At first I thought it was a horrible idea but over time it made things far better.

That would require some very militant mod action which probably isn't feasible here at this point and probably isn't something that most of us want.

Like, I enjoy how you can be less filtered on the Internet. Say what you want without worrying about feelings as much as you do in real life. We spend most of our days speaking in a professional way, pretending nobody is dumb, humouring stupid opinions/suggestions/contributions because you'll look like the ####### if you reject somebody's dumb idea as dumb if you're, like, in a meeting or something.

On the Internet, you can just unleash an unfiltered paragraph on a guy who just said something stupid. No chains. It's freeing and even therapeutic. I don't want to speak like a professional on here. It's not Linked In.

So I guess we're never going to find a version of the Internet that's just for us unless you start your own site. I imagine Bingo and the mods like a place where there is no swearing, hence we have a site that has no swearing in spite of the majority preferring to be able to speak unmuzzled instead of like 11-year-olds.
With everything we know and are discovering about online engagement and social media impact on mental health I can't justify why anyone would want to act like that towards a perfect stranger. Just because you can't see or feel the affects they are still there, it's just someone else on the other end turning away from a screen that has to drag them around offline.

Having come from that place and learning to not take it so seriously I understand how some people don't have that capacity. Hence why I try my best not to put that energy out in the ether in the first place.

Being thoughtful and courteous doesn't have to be professional, and it doesn't mean we can't disagree. You can ####ing talk however you want to ####ing talk, just don't be a #### about it.

Empathy is a virtue.

The better option IMO is to have a Politics Only/Debate forum and strictly ban/hard enforce no politics talk in any of the other forums.

Didn't HF Boards have a dedicated politics forum. It was like that years back. I don't think it exists now tho.
