The pandemic made everyone 10% more acerbic at minimum. CP is just a microcosm of regular society, skewed more heavily towards responsive people (those who are motivated to yell into the void about a hockey team...) So, it probably made people here about 15-20% more mean-spirited.
Personally, I just developed a thicker skin to general insults and disrespect. It's not worth fretting over.

It's been moving this way for a while. This thread is in bad taste as it seems to be a generational thing where people now want to cancel people that they disagree with rather than let them have their say, disagree, and move on. Just put the guy on ignore if you don't want to see his posts. It's really not that hard. Look in the mirror and ask yourself why you would campaign to have someone cancelled. If something like that would make you feel good then I would question if you are any better than the person you are trying to cancel.

This thread is filled with 40+ This forum is not getting younger.
Also it’s looks like you didn’t read the first post as your solution of ignoring the problem and not responding is the solution proposed. It’s not about Yohos posts it’s about the way the community responds to said posts.

God I hate that thing. It's honestly so puritanical and patronizing. I truly don't understand it. Just free up the sh-word and the f-word. Like, we're literally all adults here. If you don't want to swear, don't. But don't impose that on the rest of us.
I get it's not my forum and not my rules, but I can still be annoyed.

The thanks button is a decent idea in regards to patting posters on the back for an informative and helpful posts but as with the haha emoji in facebook (emoji of ridicule) it can turn into a bit of a crowd shaming thing. It can be worse though as I'm on some forums that have thumbs down buttons which makes for a lot of petty and bizarre interaction as there will be posts where someone asks a perfectly fine question or legitimate statement and someone will downvote it likely because of a personal grudge from previous interactions or something and it just makes things a mess.

I think it has a lot to do with how people engage across the Internet today. Any popular social media site is lousy with hyperbolic and aggressive replies. It's a very different place than when I first started using it.
Even something like Facebook, which started as a fun tool to keep in touch and share your personality, has devolved into tribal warfare and incendiary posting to generate engagement. The worst thing you can do for your mental health is look at the replies, and CP is all about replies.
This is still one of the highest bars I've experienced online but it does feel more hostile in the last little bit. I've tried to curb my saltier posts by asking myself "what energy do you want to put out in the world with this comment?". I've actually always received more praise in terms of "thanks" for something low temperature and reasoned, so I get that dopamine hit without being combative or rude. I'd still post without the feature and it would be an interesting experiment.
I still make posts I regret and have plenty of room to be better.

Adjacent question, but who is the youngest CPer? It can't still be Scorp? Alternately, what kind of youngin would aggravate themselves by delving into the internet reliquary that is an old style messaging board. We're pretty much living in the technological equivalent of a tube tv or a cb radio here.

So the problem isn't Yoho, it's the community. Then why shadow ban Yoho? You're just kicking a can down the road.
I'm team handle your own emotions, you read something you don't like? Get over it. It upsets you? Deal with your feelings, it seems the goal is to remove everything from our lives that's upsetting, that's not the way it works. You remove it from your life but you don't speak for everyone and get to form a posse to shun a poster. Seems very high school.

The main problem is that it really just takes one person who isn't making any effort to avoid those aggressive confrontational posts, because once one person takes that course everyone else feels not only the license to follow suit but the imperative. If someone's being a jerk, or coming across like a jerk, you're probably going to be a jerk to them, often even if their original acerbity wasn't initially even directed at you. And then the whole thread or discussion goes straight off the rails in short order.

Eh, message boards are more like vinyl records. A bit inconvenient and missing all the wiz bang features, but the purity leads to a higher fidelity experience. And the B-sides (off topic) is where all the gems are.

I don't want to be better.
Like, I enjoy how you can be less filtered on the Internet. Say what you want without worrying about feelings as much as you do in real life. We spend most of our days speaking in a professional way, pretending nobody is dumb, humouring stupid opinions/suggestions/contributions because you'll look like the ####### if you reject somebody's dumb idea as dumb if you're, like, in a meeting or something.
On the Internet, you can just unleash an unfiltered paragraph on a guy who just said something stupid. No chains. It's freeing and even therapeutic. I don't want to speak like a professional on here. It's not Linked In.
So I guess we're never going to find a version of the Internet that's just for us unless you start your own site. I imagine Bingo and the mods like a place where there is no swearing, hence we have a site that has no swearing in spite of the majority preferring to be able to speak unmuzzled instead of like 11-year-olds.

Shadow ban is likely the wrong term. I shouldn’t have used it.
People keep think that Yohos content is somehow upsetting. It isn’t. That misses the point. It’s the discussion that follows a Yoho post which Yoho doesn’t participate in that needs to stop as it details whatever conversation was happening. This thread effectively is occuring once a week in each politics thread.
An individual ignoring Yoho doesn’t change the mess that is occurring so how would you propose to fix the conversation ruining mess that occurs and how would you communicate and discuss how to improve the discourse?

I think political threads should be nuked. Several other forums I frequent used to have a P&R section it brought the entire site down getting rid of it made a drastic improvement.
