Too risky. You never know what the hell Toronto will say. It was iffy, if you lose you give them a PP and lose the challenge. It was the right call by Sutter imo.

Good to get out of that period only down by 1. Coach is gonna rip the boys a new one during the intermission, and hopefully we'll see a different Flames team in the 2nd.

Canes are a very good team. Flames will need a much stronger 40 minutes here to beat these guys.

The CRTC doesn't give a crap. All they care about is that Bell makes money. Slightly less interesting to them is that all TV providers continue to make money off their 1980s investments in cable.

Completely uninterested in anything remotely resembling modernization.

It would be nice if the top line could generate more pressure and chances. I don’t know how long the Flames can afford to wait before changing it up. Switching Toffoli and Dube might work. Kadri and Mangiapane can carry the puck for Toffoli. Dube could give the top line a little more speed.

Also, Carolina has a lot of speed and skill. Really enjoyable team to watch…when they’re not playing the Flames…

That was a horrible period for all of our defensemen, but Andersson in particular. Bobbling the puck, stumbling, bad pinches, slow. Yikes
The good news is we're only down by one, and we've got lots of game to get back into it! Markstrom showed some pretty good mental toughness after being down 2, so hopefully he can lock it down from here on out.

Is the rule still that if you lose the challenge, the other team goes on the pp? Am I thinking of a different situation?

Along with pretty much all of Calgary, haha. Doesn't surprised me at all that it's going through the team as well.

While true. I'm not sure it was worth a challenge with 50 minutes left to play. Sutter also probably didn't want to waste his shot in case the games on the line at the end. Plus, don't you get a penalty if you lose the challenge? Easy way to potentially down 3.

Fair to say the last 4 periods demonstrate that the Flames have a lot of improving to do if they hope to contend for a cup this year. The Canes were a step ahead of the Flames especially 5 on 5 that entire period.

If there's a bug going around then I won't put much stock in what's happening. Every team that gets hit with a flu/cold bug looks like they don't belong in the NHL for a week or so.

Fans are passionate and will never admit that it matters, but just think of yourself trying to do anything when you're under the weather and then imagine an athlete trying to perform against the best athletes of their sport that night.

Everyone looked slow. Carolina won almost every race to the puck. If the team is battling a bug, that would explain a lot

Yup, Stone pushed the guy and Markstrom had a chance to reset.

Bieksa is your typical dude bro but I still feel he is young enough in the game that his takes are valid. I enjoy his takes.
