Austria will now be making three consecutive appearances. If you told me that three years ago, I wouldn't have believed it.

The quote was every elderly person in Florida was going to die from Covid.
I’ll ask again if you believe that. Check your highschool text books and let me know what you find.

Hopefully they reschedule the tourney for later in the year. Can’t imagine how much money the organizers probably lost.
Be good to try and allow all of the kids in their final eligible season to compete.

Don't pretend you are defending a sane position here.

Dude. Do you think I really meant that every old person was going to die? It was exaggeration. Good god. However, a new variant that has the same transmissibility of omicron with greater virulence and resistance to immunization absolutely puts older people at risk.

Reducing the spread of the virus is the best way to avoid the creation of variants. I wasn’t arguing that the cancellation of WJC was about that. I was responding to the Florida argument that we should “just live our lives”. The more we just allow it to run roughshod, the more likely it is to develop even more dangerous variants.

Exactly this. We are lucky that Omicron variant hasn't been producing serious illnesses at the rate of other variants, but the more the virus rans rampant, the greater chance that another, possibly more deadly variant, will be spawned. Some people don't get this and think we shouldn't be taking it as serious as past variants.

That's an even worse look for the IIHF than they already have. Cancelling the womens U18 last year and again this year but finding a way to reschedule the mens U18, then rescheduling the juniors when they have stated all the other events are cancelled with no possibility or rescheduling would set a ver4y poor precedent.

I debated doing the same for football, 4 games cancelled already - I'm kind of glad I passed on doing it.

Many, many people have lost money during the pandemic, including many who have lost their livelihood.
Consider this an annoying, yet marginal, loss.

The men's U23 (World Juniors) is a premier event. Why would it be a bad look to try and reschedule that?
No one gives a #### about the men's U18 for the most part, and even less for the women's.

Could Care Less

This is a ####ing embarrassment for Alberta and Canada. Our policy makers need to get their #### together, the draconian restrictions for what is becoming a cold/flu for a primarily vaxxed population are ridiculous.
Honestly feel so bad for these kids and it’s a terrible look for our province and country

Outside of the hockey bubble no one cares
Our province has plenty that it should be embarrassed about during Covid but this one isn’t on the radar

Albertas rule was one positive and you forfeit? You sure about that?
That’s what tanked the tourney.

While the IIHF governs the tournament it's up to the host (benefactor, in this case the Edmonton Oilers) to organize and coordinate hotels/bubbles.
So if Spector is saying it wasn't the organisers (Oilers) fault, then it definitely was.
