That would correct the Flames history for the rebuild in so many ways.

Hope the flames package him and a solid pick for Rakell.
We need one more top 6 sniper.
Honestly though, pretty gutted by the news.

I need to go back and hear what Friedman actually said, how he phrased it.
I thought he said he called his agent and asked, and the agent said he was open to exploring other options
It didn’t sound like a demand of any sort, and didn’t seem loud from the player camp
Good on Bennett for betting on himself. His next contract matters, it can mean the difference in millions over his career
Calgary has 6 centres and, what, 3 actual good natural wingers?

I just wonder as well if the leadership/locker room has issues. This team just seems off and uncoordinated.
I hope this doesn't end up causing more issues in the dressing room

The last thing the Flames need are more low-skill forwards and old washed up defensemen.
Props to Treliving for having a filled out roster. Really, the biggest needs are an elite center and a top 6 RW. If the latter is what you meant by Josh Anderson, I guess I get it. The Flames could also use bottom line forwards that actually produce.

he's also had 11 more games than McDavid in the playoffs, who is the guy every team's defensive game plan is focused on.
We'll revisit the return if and when a trade is actually consummated.

Sounds like this agent may have been told to start earning his pay, so he starts a couple fires tonight, in unison with Friedman giving him the platform.

If this is the final stretch of Bennett games, it’s disappointing. Not because we won’t be able to replace him, but because it closes the chapter of our highest draft pick in a pretty sad way.
He may not deserve much love or admiration, he’s a guy who just couldn’t put it together and if it was a specific type of opportunity he needed to succeed (like it the playoffs) something he just couldn’t consistently earn or hold on to. But he’s done nothing to deserve hate. And for the few dishing it out (not lumping those in who don’t care, for the record), it’s a pretty embarrassing look as fans.

I find this a weird take. For a highly touted 1st rounder who turned out to be a bust, Sam Bennett gets almost no hate.
Unless you’re embarrassed that people think he’s not very good. But that’s not hate, that’s just people evaluating his play.

If we have to trade Bennett our best bet might be to aim for a team looking to move their own reclamation project.
There is Jake Virtanen which has been speculated a ton.
Buffalo has Tage Thompson and Casey Mittlestadt who haven't lived up to their hype.
Ottawa had been rumored to be looking to move Logan Brown.
Eeli Tolvanen hasn't live up to his hype in Nashville.
Travis Dermott seems to be on the outs in Toronto and Toronto has been rumoured to like Bennet in the past.
Mete in Montreal.
Vince Dunn is available from St. Louis and almost got traded to Pittsburgh earlier in the week.

Dude...are you saying that you want 34 year old Edler over just turned 24 year old Hanifin?
Cmon...you’re better than that.

Scoring Winger

The writing was on the wall for a few seasons now. Esp with Drai blowing up in the past two years (and getting paid), and hearing Bennett down about it.
Looking back in the Draft really we cant say we missed out on anyone else Drafting 4th. Not a great draft for the first round. You cant say we could have had Pastrnak because he was never going to be drafted top 5.
When I watch him play I cant see how he was drafted as high as he was. I watched Drai in Red Deer his draft year and I thought he would never be the player he was today...Its about opportunity and ceasing it. Bennett never did this but to be fair the flames have been deeper and a better team then the oilers for decades.

Contrary to what a lot will think, this news brings no joy to Mudville. It sucks watching a player completely fail and playing himself off the team, so it was only a matter of time before Bennett got moved for a diminishing return. Good on him for forcing the team's hand and trying to go out on his terms. It will be interesting if they can find a suitor who is willing to accept $2.55M in cap hit, and then an ugly qualifying offer, for what is a 4th liner. I think Bennett better be prepared for this to drag out as the market for him is going to be non-existent. The Flames will have to package him with something of value to move him, and I doubt they want to do that. It's unfortunate it came to this, but I hope he comes to realization that this is squarely on his shoulders and him not being able to perform up to an acceptable level. Here's hoping the Flames can shake a 4th or 5th rounder loose from someone and get this done in a timely manner so it does not become a distraction.

Very disappointed. Not disappointed at the player, just at the request.
If it happens, and I hope it doesn’t, the Flames likely don’t win this trade.
Most teams that would like to upgrade are at the cap.
What other player with Bennett’s salary cap hit is going to make us better in the playoffs??

Thanks, I did hear it correctly. It wasn’t as dramatic as many people are making it out to be
The player wants to play, is open to betting on himself. It is possibly as much of a tactic pressuring for ice time as anything else.
No big deal
Thought he had a good game tonight, was noticeable in a good way

I think the Flames mis-managed Bennett and a change will do him good. His career isn't going to be what he'd hoped though.
The real loser in all of this is Calgary, no way you get anything of value for him.
