That was a dog’s breakfast.

- Gio couldn’t stay on his feet or hit a pass or a shot.
- Tkachuk drew some penalties and took some abuse but contributed absolutely nothing offensively, which is acceptable for a 4th liner
- Was Monahan even on the ice? I saw his face, and the number 23, but that could have easily been a ghost based on the level of engagement in the actual game
- Gaudreau did the thing where he gives some effort and is super fast and then gets rubbed out or misses the shot a mile wide. Cool, it’s like the same offensive contribution as Sam Bennett, but at least Bennett drives to the net once in a while.

Not a great effort, and if I’m being honest the Jets didn’t look great either and yet we still couldn’t do anything with that (people saying we were out coached, that the Jets played a good game, etc - nah, they were dog shirt as well, let’s not excuse the Flames by complimenting the opponent in ways they don’t deserve).

I thought Backlund was good, Lindholm (maybe our best player), Bennett, Andersson, Talbot, Forbot (somewhat), Dube, Lucic, etc. Lots of “good,” but all the guys that are supposed to be “great” look like “puke” so I’m not too excited. I don’t even know how good Hellebyuck is, we’ve barely done anything aside from fire it into the chest.

I love Tkachuk, but he needs to come out in game 3 and lead this team. I’m tired of hearing him talk about it, go do it. Gio can’t even do it in the playoffs, so please, somebody step up already.

Brutal reffing. Ridiculous. The Jets are playing like it is the 80s, draping themselves all over the Flames. I have no idea what interference is any more.

Or hooking. Mangiapane shouldn’t have had a penalty because that play should have stopped when Perrault got the hooking call he deserved

Ehlers shouldn’t have scored because he should have been out of the game for the high elbow. He didn’t even get a penalty for that, he got an unsportsmanlike

Nice game, stripes.

Bennett has been Bennett. Hustles hard and does very little out there except bump and grind. Got a lucky goal that will somehow become an epic end-to-end dangle by next season, but that was countered by his dumb penalties. Bennett is what Bennett is. A ball of hustle with the intelligence of a banana. The only reason he's looked any good at all is because the top six has been ####ing pathetic - every single one of them - and the 4th line is joke. Bennett has been noticeable which is more than you can say for the rest of the team. But as far as playing actual hockey and showing any skill whatsoever, Bennett has been as bad as everyone else. The only guys on the Flames that appear to be capable of making a skill related play right now are Dube and Rieder. Everyone can't make a simple pass or head man the puck with a damn. Brutal play all around.

I mean, the Flames PK is 12/13 and I don't think Janko stops the Ehlers goal today.

I'm not sure we want the 4th line playing more even strength, it just means less icetime for the other 3 lines.

Game 1 — everyone was hitting everything. Today, barely anyone bothered to finish their checks. It’s like they thought the team they wore down and beat on Friday was the team they were going to face today.

It’s now a best of three. Fortunately, 2020 Winnipeg < 2019 Colorado so I still like our chances. But another game or two like that and we can call it a season, and all the talk about redemption was just that — talk.
Yup. Game 1 was a statement game and so was game 2. They started off saying they were pissed off how they lost last year and for the final 45 minutes of the game they played with that intensity to bounce back.

They predictably sat back today feeling good about themselves when the Jets were even more depleted than game 1. I was optimistic once the Flames tied the game they would have the ability to step it up and close this one out but it was pretty clear in the third they didn’t want to do that.

Treliving sucks too, his coaching hires, his Ufa gems, it's all idiotic. I hope he's the first to be kicked out of the franchise when this season ends soon.
Hire GM
Get impatient with GM
Fire GM

Rinse and repeat.

It's worked so well for this franchise let's continue it!

Those players he inherited are precisely the ones not showing up (Except Backlund).

Bennett was credited with a goal that was kicked in by a Jet, took a penalty after they had just given one up on the PK, and had the fewest minutes of anyone other than the 4th line.......... but man he skated fast!!

Mangiapane took a penalty but he was the most dangerous player on the team all night offensively....but you are correct also took a bone headed penalty. So if you want to say he was bad...cool.

Truly though between Johnny turnover, Gio, Tkachuk, and Monahan....the issues were so deep on this team those two guys are way down the list.

Abysmal game.

With a few more minutes to process the loss, the jets didn’t look all that amazing winning that game. Ward has to find buttons to push, and we can definitely take game 3, and potentially the series.

Bennett is our best playoff player again...this statement isn't a positive.

I dunno, I'm probably irrationally angry/annoyed now, if they suck again tomorrow it'll be more rational... I'll have more justification for it

Agreed.

Its the flames' turn to push back and I believe they will.

Team will rally similarly to the jets after their attempts to run our guys. I think it got personal for some of the guys now and should engage them.

If they don't then go ahead and have the self pity parade.

Yeah, I think it is time to shuffle the 4th line. They were out played and hemmed in for every shift they played. Total momentum killer.

Middle of the road team can’t beat the Jets with two top scorers out. This is the Flames team I expected to see in the first game.

Officiating has me absolutely fuming. Missed assignments and inability to make passes lost the Flames this game though.

First line really needs to start putting their mark on this series. 5 on 5 they’ve been neutralized by an average defensive team. With Gaudreau being swarmed out there, Monahan needs to help alleviate the pressure here. Can’t just stand around waiting or deferring here. Make stuff happen so this line isn’t so predictable.

With Scheifele and Laine out today, the fact the Flames stars couldn’t shine was pretty damn disappointing.

Ehler’s hit on Tkachuk was a filthy, dirty elbow to Tkachuk’s head…He could have cut his jugular. He could have ended a man’s career. It was an absolutely filthy, disgusting hit.

He also set up Gustafsson and Tkachuk all alone in the high slot today for 2 great chances, as well as another nice setup to a teammate in a dangerous position.

I honestly don't think Johnny has fed a teammate for a good chance even strength yet, has he?

If you wanna change the tune of the series, someone needs to take a run at Hellebuyck. Throw their only good piece left off his game and agitate the rest of the Jets to the point they lose focus.

Bennett has 6 points in his last 7 playoff games. Bennett being Bennett is what this team needs. He's an effective playoff player. His goal was in no way countered by the bull@$%^ call against him - that's your own personal bias shining through.
