Magic number 1.
Colorado must lose out in regulation. Arizona must beat Colorado in regulation, and lose all other games in regulation. Minnesota max 3 points in 5 games. Vancouver must win out (can’t win tiebreakers anyway, so doesn’t matter what kind of wins).

St Louis has a very legit chance to win their division. That’s bonkers when you consider where they were when the calendar flipped.

The Stars can also win the Central Division.

So if St Louis win their division, they'll play Dallas? I'd like the scenario, let them beat each other to death.

The world needs more of the word ‘bonkers’...agreed!

That's why we don't make pronouncements on the season in the first week of March. Unless of course we are speaking about the Oilers's season.

Stecher is pretty good, bro. 4.4% CF rel, plays 20 minutes a night. He does his job well and is still young. Juolevi... well he sucks in comparison to Tkachuk, but there's stuff to like in his development. I think he'll be a player
Idk. I haven't manifested a strong hate for these Canucks yet. Their players are just fun to watch. They're exciting and fast. I much prefer this core to their old one but that can easily change with just one Pettersson playoff series
|
Eriksson has some fluke second assists--he's terribad and most nuck fans would love to shoot him into the sun. (Still better than Lucic though) I don't know that Juolevi will play a 100 games in the league total. Benning will Benning in the summer and overpay for Wayne Simmonds and put them in cap hell when they have to pay Boeser as well, plus Markstrom has been good so he's going to get a big raise.
You're right about Stecher though and though most people hate Roussel, he's been the only decent free agent of those bad contracts they signed. Also, is it just me or does Hughes look like he could be Johnny Hockey's brother?

Yeah it's good for the Flames that all the top seeds are slumping at the end of the season. Could also be good for the Blues and Stars who have arguably been playing the best hockey down the stretch. The Jets, Preds, and Sharks look to have very difficult first round match-ups.

What a 3rd collapse by the Jets after being up 4-2. The Islanders only had 12 shots on net in that period. Eberle scored the GWG with 73 seconds left in reg time, he had 3 points and so did Pulock. Lowry had 3 points in the losing cause.
The BJs took Tortarella's 1st intermission rant to heart and played well for the final 40 minutes to win 6-2. Price wasn't at his best in net as he faced 30 shots. Bjorkstrand scored 2 goals for Columbus. The win puts them in 8th place and are ahead of the Habs as they have more ROWs and played 1 less game.
The Capitals sweep the home-away series against the Hurricanes as they defeated Carolina 3-2 in reg time. No points for OV. McElhinney went for the poke check but lost that gamble when Vrana scored the GTG through his legs. Dowd scored the nice tap in for the winning goal with just under 5 minutes left in reg time. The Hurricanes are 7th in the eastern conf, just 1 point ahead of the BJs. The Capitals have clinched a playoff spot with their victory.
The Metro Division is still a 5 horse race because the BJs and Hurricanes can still mathematically win the divison, the Capitals could take it easy and rest up. The Islanders remain 3 points behind Washington.

That is surprising.
Then again, NHL wheel of justice, so maybe it's not...

Shouldn't Hughes and Demo actually have to prove they can even play in the NHL before you annoint them part of a stacked core?
The Canucks core going forward right now is Peterson, Horvat and Boeser, who are 3 fine players but hardly "stacked"

Yeah, it's small sample size, but we anoint zealous "future" tags pretty generously on guys like Valimaki and Dube who have proven less and have lesser pedigree. Hughes and Demko both looked fantastic last night.

You never know how someone's game is going to translate to the NHL but Hughes is a pretty sure thing. He's going to be an important part of their core going forward.
The Canucks have a lot of work to do but they have some important pieces to be sure.

Yeah, but one night of fantastic is also not something to hang your hat on. See Janko's' four goals, Bennett's four goals, Sven...

Oh, of course. And I'll concede the point about Demko, there's still a lot to prove there.
But Hughes looked electric last night. Absolutely flying around guys, and if his unbelievable college career is worth anything, he'll be a player to fear for years. But boy, he's fun to watch.

Maybe one day the Canucks will even have a 100 point team to complain about
