For me it was great to see them moving their legs, but they seemed to have a problem of coming out slow in the 2nd, they lost of all their 1st period mojo and it took a while to get going again. At least they started well this game and had more jump, they just seem to be gripping it too hard and over thinking things.

Still way too much dumping up the boards without any pressure coming, and forwards flying the zones. What is most concerning is a few people who used to be more defensively responsible are becoming lazy, but Sean is not one of those, he was hustling back a lot and broke up several dangerous plays, shame on anyone who says he isn't earning his paycheck every game, solid props to him for two way play and clutch hands in the slot.

They really need to learn how to put the right sort of pressure on the boards win the battles to establish offensive zone control, still way to much play in defensive end and when they gain control they tend to give it back too easily.

I still haven't gotten over how great it is to be feeling like I did with Kipper that everything is under control. It seems like the only thing that will beat Smith is what he can't see, a deflection and a few gaffs he sometimes almost makes, but man he is a spunge and I love it when takes control of the puck and nullifies a dump in, you can see chemistry settling in with the D.

Need more of the scoring by committee we saw last year, all lines have the potential to be a threat but they just seem to be struggling to put it together and look to get frustrated. It will come, you can see it starting to settle in, but I still feel like they have lost some speed and some edge, so hopefully by end of November they are full motor and clicking.

At least tonight the effort was there from the start and pretty much through out the game, so that's a first good step in my eyes.

A lot of the teams problems very honestly seem to settle on the bottom 6. Without looking it up, have they scored a goal 5v5? 3m needs to score more as well. Monahan and Johnny are far from being a problem.

The same people ripping on the team, jumping off the bandwagon, dissing GG, calling for Bennett's head are the same ones who will be doing a total 180 by mid-season.

They will adore the team, ride the bandwagon, praise GG, and cheer for Bennett.

I have disliked GG since i saw his face on tv.I have been a die hard Flames fan since 1985.GG is bringing this team down he couldn't hold Badger Bob Johnsons or Darryl Sutters playbook. He is a joke!

“I don’t like his face.”

Ah, that’s the well-reasoned hate for a coach I’ve come to love.

Rolling my eyes at this PGT.

Team played well.
Good step forward.
Goaltending has been good-->great
Chemistry is strong on the second pair
Special teams are playing well.

The big concerns so far (shots allowed, discipline) have been addressed and improved the last few games.

If I'm worried about one thing, it's this:

Mike Smith has proven to me he can stop a tonne of shots when his team is out-performed, however, when this team does inevitably cut down its shots and chances against, will he still be elite?

I think so, since he is so active in playing the puck and thus always involved, however today in the first period, when he was a bit bored, he seemed to bobble the puck a bit more. Something to watch for.

You love GG? He has no emotion on the bench! This is the Flames identity right now. They look like robots trying to play his system.

My least favourite time on this website is when the negative Nancys and the positive Karls both make valid (as well as completely invalid and assinine) points. Now I have to decide for myself how I feel about this game and this team! Damn it, the Internet is meant to tell me how to feel, not make me actually think about it!

I was going to come here and drunkenly rant about how awful the team has been, but frankly I've been negative enough, and I don't think I can type that long without making many egregious spelling errors. M

I'm going to be drunkenly positive. : Troy Brouwer has been pretty friggin' good the last few games. I e liked what I've seen from him. Hope he keeps it up.

They flat out ignore those aspects of hockey. That is directly a result of Gullet.
The Flames do have an identity. They are a soft team that is easy to play against. Not sure how much of that is on Gulutzan though.

When Skinner shot the puck right at Versteegs head and nobody did anything about it that was just so..............Flames.

All in all a pretty good game by the Flames. Probably should of won. But otherwise a 'decent' loss.

I was at the game. I have no idea what lines I saw tonight, was GG using a Vitamix?

Why is the bottom D pair on the PP? I just don't get it it. The Flames were chipping and hacking at pucks to keep them moving forward with no puck control. Felt like Halloween came very early.

Also, why not use a time out now and again when your team is being flogged? What are you saving it for?

Highlights: Mike Smith goaltending, Monahan's release is unreal. Like you can watch the game live, but he is quicker then that. Feed that man the puck.

Missing: Jankowski

Why: F Hamilton, Kulik. Brouwer played great but had a bigggggg give away tonight leading to a goal.

Forgiven: Brodie. Gio. Terrible night. Great D-men though.

Well Jagr got hurt, so you kinda have to mix up the lines.

Stone and Kulak didn't play a second of PP time.

Which goal? Brouwer wasn't on the ice for any goal against, only the goal he set up.

Caught bits and pieces of this one. Not the ending I was hoping for, but not a disaster either.

Two sloppy plays cost them two goals. The Wild looks much hungrier in the 3rd and was all over the play. Stalock definitely stole the game from the Flames. He was pretty good all night. Again the secondary scoring was not there. We can't rely on the Monahan-Gaudreau lines to do all the scoring. Yes Versteeg scored a goal but it was on the power play 5 on 3.

I know it is too early in the season to panic but we need the 2nd and 3rd line to contribute. Need net presence and unfortunately I am noticing Tkachuk is not going in front of the net and pissing people off as much as last season. On the 3rd line, they definitely need a boost and I know people been mentioning it a lot. Call up Jankowski and play him with Bennett and Versteeg/Ferland.

It took a perfect shot to put the Wild ahead; Backlund was an inch from tying it late but give credit to Stalock for making the save. Definite improvement from last game which is what you need, results notwithstanding.

Tough back to back coming up -- not going to say must win but we need at least two "huge" points to keep the momentum going in the right direction. Hope Lack can put in a good effort as I'm sure he'll start one of the two games...
