They are nothing alike, but I think Gio might do it, then maybe Hamonic. Gio's laid some pretty good open ice hits in his time. Ask Kadri.

It would be fun for Jagr to dress for the pre game warm up in Edmonton tonight and scare the crap and confuse the greasers. Flames 5-2.

I think some of who is playing has to be dependent on Stone. The guy is a 4/5 d-man, so he's not the calibre of player who is going to cover a lot of the others mistakes in positioning. Playing Bartkowski tonight might just be a case of them knowing each other, and as injuries and chemistry develops, things will change.
I think earlier on they had him paired with Kulak for a while and then later on he was more and more with Bartkowski.

I'm not worried as much as I just don't really like watching Bartkowski play the game. He's a #7 dman who was on an AHL deal last season before the expansion draft required us to sign him for 2yrs. I just don't like watching players that are not young enough to improve and are tweeners struggling to maintain depth roles in the league. If he's the 7 I don't mind that, and to be fair it's one game but I get the impression he will be playing more often then not.

Like I said, in the original post, I get that Kulak didn't necessarily grab the opportunity and run with it but I still would like to develop younger guys in these depth roles since we have high end guys to insulate them.

The sequence I'd like to see

McDavid gets a pass from a defenseman and starts his typical ramp up his speed thinking the Flames are going to back off like everyone else did last year. Mony closes the tunnel preventing him from cutting in. Gio comes across with the hip check sending McDavid spinning in the air 6 times. The refs hand goes up. Oiler fans cheer. Then the ref points at McDavid with the embelishment sign, Oiler fans boo. McDavid starts to whine like a tortured puppy. Maroon thinking he needs to defend his super star goes after Gio. Ferland grabs him and punches him straight through the head leaving a bloody smoking hole. As Maroon lies on the ice twitching, the Oiler fans go quiet.

McDavid decides that the game isn't fun and benches himself

Flames win
That would be a happy birthday to me moment.

Put me with the group that doesn't see why the Oilers and Leafs have been anointed by so many as top teams. I don't see it. Both teams have a lot of holes and questionable depth.

Sometime I think maybe my biases are why I don't see it and maybe I am wrong but I don't think so. I think both are good teams with a lot of potential if everything rolls their way (like last season) to do something.

Plus I think it is incredibly common for teams to have a large (often unexpected) surge one year and fall back down the next year. Particularly when you get a 'the rebuild is ahead of schedule' kind of thing. It has happened to so many teams in the past few years, ie Colorado, Dallas, Colombus, Us, Islanders, Winnipeg etc. Some like Colorado never find their way back.

I will not be shocked to see either, or both, the Leafs and Oilers go through some hard times this season.

Did Hathaway get sent down, or is Jagr officially added to the roster tomorrow?

Hathaway is playing tonight.

Given Treliving's comment about Jankowski today I'd imagine there will be a few roster moves (trades etc.) coming.

Treliving says Jagr's contract won't take effect until tomorrow, so the roster is fine and set for now.

AKA, something happening after the game. Hathaway down to the AHL is the easy option.

In waiting for the Jagr presser on TV, misfortune of seeing Principe doing his spot for the national Hockey Central. And he's doing it while he has got one of the Oilers towels they are leaving on the seats, around his neck like a scarf.

I love just looking around that the Flames are solid underdogs, most fans of other teams are writing them off as somewhere between on par with San Jose and probably going to lose to Vancouver a lot.

We're classed as a mediocre team at best, far less talented then Edmonton who have elite talent throughout their line up.

The Flames are just the sad sack of the pacific.

That's usually when the hero steps out of the shadow and hits the upper cut that rips the Oilers head from their shoulders.

Go get em boys.

Sadly I'm going to miss the game as practice starts late and goes later but I'll be doing the following.

"ok boys, lets run the fake action 36 counter pass 1872"

Looks at phone as play runs

"How'd it work?"
