I bet this is still his reaction at the end of games:
This is a perfect example of how you can get under this guy’s skin. Let the frustration impact his decision making process. Make his life miserable each and every shift.

i'd put stone and russell about the same tier, bottom pairing guys. the issue for the oilers is that he's slotted in as a 2nd pairing guy.
I think stone and Russell are both number 4s, they're making 3.5 and 4 mil respectively, but Benning is a 3rd pairing guy and their dmen in general aren't great

Dollars has nothing to do with it. Russell is definitely a 3rd pairing guy, a pretty terrible one at that.

Not to be a downer but it frustrates me that Bartkowski is in the opening game lineup. We have a solid top 5 and we can have a 6th guy insulated by the group as a whole and it just bugs me that Bart is the guy in that role.
I get that most of the young lefties didn't perform as well at camp, outside of maybe Kyllington and Valimaki - both of which made sense to send back down - but I would much rather see someone else there. I get Andersson going back as well but even though Kulak struggled in preseason I would much rather see him out there.
The whole forward debacle is one thing I know will get sorted out in time and Jankowski will push his way onto the roster but I'm just sick of watch Bart on the team. He makes errors that rookies would make so it frustrates me that he gets to play ahead of them. Is his intangibles of being gritty that much more valuable? Maybe but not in my eyes..
Sorry for the negativity as I am stoked hockey is back but outside of the excitement around the new acquisitions of Hamonic and Jagr and to a lesser extent Smith and Glass I really wanted to be excited about a young player on the opening night lineup. Even if it was just Kulak.
I still don't understand how the Oilers went from the leagues laughing stock to their favourite team in the west, all because they lucked their way into McDavid......
My guess, Flames 5 refs 2.

I didn't pay much attention in pre-season. So forgive me this question.
Who did Stone play with? And were any of the bottom guys playing paired with him?
I think some of who is playing has to be dependent on Stone. The guy is a 4/5 d-man, so he's not the calibre of player who is going to cover a lot of the others mistakes in positioning. Playing Bartkowski tonight might just be a case of them knowing each other, and as injuries and chemistry develops, things will change.

Bartkowski actually looked fine playing on the left side with Stone once they were deployed as the third pairing in the pre-season. I awn not terribly worried about them.
