Isn't a signing like this getting ahead of needing to wait and see about "reinforcements"? Plus with the kind of assets we have left I don't know what kind of impact player we could reasonably ask for.

We also have a bunch of youngsters who could be asked to try and step in and see how they do at any position (forward, defense, goalie)

Exactly. We'll have a serious lack of assets to burn at the deadline. We should get as much depth as we can now when it only costs money then at the deadline when the currency will be something we won't have to part with.

I don't care what they offer Jagr. As long as there's room to sign Bennett, Wotherspoon, and Kulak.

It would be a 1 year contract. The Flames don't have the cap space or assets to make any trade deadlines moves anyways.

Even if the Flames somehow managed to offer him 3.8 million, it would still be a low risk move.
Frolik would no longer be only the RW on the team who had more than 30 points last year (unless you count Versteeg).

The Flames don't have a lot of top 6 winger depth. They should sign a player like Jagr, because injuries will happen. And there's almost no risk.

Default Friedman: Flames have looked at Jagr

With the birth of my daughter, today is already an awesome day. If Jaromir Bloody Jagr signed today it would be the best day of my life. But it would have to happen now for it to make sense.

I like the thought of Jagr with the Flames as much as anyone but at $3.7 I would pass.

Jagr is not going to sign here for only 2m... 3m for 1 year is fine.

First time that has ever been said here without sounding ridiculous.
Congrats on the bundle of joy!

This is just crazy, can't wait for hockey to start , talk. The flames barely have enough cap space to sign Bennett and Kulak etc... There's no room for Jagr at all period and no money to pay him... Not going to happen... ever

I really don't think this is a great idea unless they KNOW what Bennett's acceptable number is, and if they do, why isn't Bennett signed yet?

Anything around $3.0M would be acceptable for Jagr. More than that and things get tight with who needs a contract and the cap.

Versteeg or Ferland with the current lineup.

It is a hole - Find a solution that fits with the current timeline - Jagr just uses up a year of our window if he goes on the first line. We aren't winning anything with him on the first line.

Are you from the future? That's an awfully confident statement that you really don't have any means of backing up.

Going with the odds. If the Flames won the Cup with Jagr on the first line - not only would it be unbelievable - I think he would be the oldest player in history to be active on the championship team.

Nope. Chelios was older in 2008 by a month.
