I love Jagr. I would love to see him on the Flames. But at this stage of his career you really have to be careful with what you're willing to pay for his services. Shelling out almost 4 million bucks to a guy who will be 46 by the end of the season is a BIG gamble, and not a worthwhile one in my opinion. If you can get him for somewhere in the neighborhood of $2 - 2.5M per year, then sure, bring him in - It's Jagr time. At $3.7M though, it's not worth the risk. Legend or not, at some point time is going to catch up with the guy.
I'm of the same school of thought when it comes to Iggy, only in his case I'd put the cap at $1.5M.
Both of these guys would be awesome to have on the team, but only if they come at a bargain.

Not a big fan of bringing him in, but if they were to sign him (and not just give him a PTO which might also be in play), it needs to be at the bargain $1-$2mm range. I think folks are really downplaying the risk here.

Man it would be a dream if Jagr could do for Bennett, what Hudler did for Monahan

And what he apparently did for Barkov.

I don't see how there's risk on a 1 year deal. Let's say he sucks, then what? They healthy scratch him and don't re-sign him, no big deal. I guess it might prevent them from making a big trade at the deadline but is bringing in a guy who makes the $3.5 mil goimg to Jagr instead going to be the difference between winning a Stanley Cup or not? I doubt it.
Bringing him in on a one year deal has virtually no risk in my opinion.

I think the contract needs to be incentive based. I would be hesitant give him 3.5M if the wheels do falloff. With incentives, if he hits the marks then it means he is a contributor, if he doesn't it gives you some extra cap space to play with at the deadline.

Meh, it would be "cool" I suppose, but I don't really dig the idea of needing a 45yr old (even if it is Jagr) in the lineup.

Price becomes a consideration too. I see Iginla as more of a low risk signing at a cheap contract. If Jagr's price tag is such that he would either carry dead money into next year or hamstring the team from making any other moves, then it's not apples to apples anymore.
And unrelated but the other part for me as a fan:
Iginla is chasing a Cup.
Jagr is chasing Howe.
I would rather see Iginla with the Cup.

I have the sneaking suspicion that Jankowski could put up points in the league this season. Only go for Jagr if he's cheap and wants to be here / be a part of GG's system. If he's coming in just to hit a couple more milestones under his name and collect a paycheque then opt for the kids instead.

I'm curious, if Jagr is still unsigned when the season starts what will last longer, Jagr to the Flames rumors or oiler fans posting on CP?

.@68Jagr to the @NHLFlames is close. #Flames sounds like a 1 year deal worth $3.7M

That guy is the opposite of credible. He had some... interesting takes on July 1.

3.7 is pretty far out of the realm of possibility with Bennett, Kulak and Wotherspoon still unsigned. I'd be more aroused if he threw out a realistic number like 1-2M.

2.0 or less and I'm all for it. Can't see any negative at that price for a year best case he is a massive veteran presence on a line of youngsters (Bennett could use a possession-driven winger...), worst case he regressed from last year and provides a more viable option on 3rd/4th line. And he would likely break one or two NHL records while wearing a Flames jersey. I'm in.

Plus it could push ELC bonuses into the 2018-19 season which the Flames will want to avoid.
