Treliving's gotta act soon. This is bad. We'll have a lost season in about two weeks.

My Grandmother passes away today, Flames lose yet again, and have recently quit drinking to boot. Don't know how this day could get any better.

Simply put, regardless of how well you think the team is playing. It's still not good enough. And far from it.

Unfortunately it looks like the Flames are stuck with Glue Gun for the rest of the season. They're not gonna pay two guys not to coach the team, would reflect really poorly on management.

It has been amazing to watch this performance play out this season. Frustrating (obviously) when you watch the games this weekend. Maybe there will be this miraculous turn around this season. However, at this point, hope for that is not very high. Reminds me a bit of watching Crosby last season struggle under Johnson in Pittsburg. Everyone was wondering what was going on with him. Then he (and the team) turns it around mid-season. I wonder what was a big reason for that. Hmmm...
Coincidence it was a coaching change? Watching a guy like Gaudreau so far is where is the creativity that he is known for? I don't know. Aside from that is where is the pushback from this team? Where is the fire? Pardon the pun. Tkachuk is the one who shows the most. Some may say that is his game, but come on! Stand up for each other out there.
I'm not looking to pile it all on the coaching, but some things are obviously amiss with this team. Special teams cannot continue like this. Can they?

Only up from here, right?

Go Flames Go!

I honestly think they do need to think about a wholesale coaching change.

It'll reflect worse on management if they don't. This staff is not turning this around. There's just too many problems and they seem reluctant to make the safe plays. The players also don't seem engaged whatsoever, and this is probably the biggest factor.

Does anyone else watch some of AC's old videos to cheer up after a depressing loss like this?

It's got nothing to do with punishment. If JGs team mates feel he's still not doing what he should be off ice to be able to put his best game on the ice for the team, not a single one of them will risk their fists, faces and safety on his behalf, and that's how it should be. You used the word team in your post, good team mates stick up for good team mates, end of story.

True. But Shero lost his job prior to that and Johnston still got 110 games as coach of the Pens. If/when GG is fired I'd be very surprised if BT isn't joining him in unemployment. Has there been any confirmation that Gulutzan is in fact, one a one year deal?

That's drama man. This is a bad team with good players. The GM and coach also love to put plugs in the lineup, so it's not really surprising.

Serious question, what's the record for shortest coaching tenure? I'm not talking about a Todd Nelson-esque interim head coach, I mean a legitimate hire brought in before a season. Wasn't Gulutzan canned in Dallas after like 110 games? That's not a whole lot.

I can't believe we waited so long to hire a coach who took so long to get training camp sorted out so players could actually learn a system and that we waited so long for these so called star players to sign contracts that are so long.

God damn I'm mad right now.

Uncarved, I want to say sorry for your loss, Grandmothers are special people, cherish those good memories because I am sure that's what she would want. I know the Flames are struggling right now and we are all lamenting about it but they will come around eventually one way or another. Congrats on your soberty hang in there.

Barry Melrose? 16 games for the Lightning.

One coach being bad has no bearing on how bad or good the next one is.

I loved and hated Hartley. First he was very mediocre with a very mediocre team. He was the perfect coach for the beginning of the rebuild in the sense that there was identity and accountability ingrained in the players. His player selection and theories on the game were outdated and he was never going to take the team anywhere. Coaches like Babcock, Quenneville, Sullivan and Sutter understood that stretch pass and forwards breaking early may help you score a bunch of nice goals, but you'll lose more often than not. Hartley just flat out refused to look at the evidence with his own team. His player selection was also bizarre at times, but that was secondary.

As for Gulutzen, I'm not going to pretend I can figure out his "system", but he seems to want to experiment with everything. Tinker with one thing at a time, but to change the system, put a ####ty D with a good one and think that's sound strategy, while reinventing a powerplay, changing up a PK, etc is just dumb. All chemistry with D pairings is gone, Brodie gets switched out of the side he's played for 4 years, Wideman gets 20 minutes, Grossman over Kulak, etc, etc, etc
