6 years is a long time for Johnny to grow up and grow new ties in Calgary. He could be married with kids by the time his contract is up. Living close to Mom and Dad loses it appeal when you get older. I think the Flames will have a decent chance resigning him.

Not worried at all about 6 vs 7 or 8. 6 years is a long time. Time to get after it, boys.

Anyone know if the Fan960 will have some coverage today or not likely due to the holiday?

Kulak isn't on Cap Friendly and they are showing 539k.

i think this is a great signing... i am sure we tried had for a longer term...
but happy with 6, since we can still try to resign him later on... or if worse comes to worse, we'll have time to shop him before he becomes a UFA...
does he have a NTC?

That's too bad... Thanks for the heads up!
It's not like 6yrs of playing in a city on likely a winning team, potential girlfriend/wife, new house, likely wearing a letter soon, and positive life experiences could change his mind... (IF it even needs changing)

He'd only be eligible for an NTC in the 6th year, I believe.

If the flames can win a cup or be a consistent contender then I think Gaudreau will have adifficult time leaving in 6 years. Look at the team's core and I think there's a good chance he stays. Hopefully he marries a Calgarian, has a kid, and never wants to leave.

i like your logic. This could very well be the case.

Solid signing by Treliving again. Happy to see him in the opening game, didn't think it was going to happen. I would have prefer 8 years, but that creates a lot of risk for the team. I would like to think Gaudrau will be able to achieve and maintain a ppg pace for the next 8 years but history shows this is unlikely.

In the hockey world, 6 years is a lifetime, and making any predictions that far in advance is a fool's errand. Who knows, 6 years from now, Gaudreau could have enjoyed great success on ice with the Flames, married a local girl, and have a two kids here.
And FWIW, Iginla never signed a contract longer than 5 years and he stuck around for a long time.
