I read about CalgaryPuck on the newsgroups I never posted in. Without CalgaryPuck, I wouldn't know how to start my internet day.

I used to follow and sometimes post on the old Usenet Flames group in the late 90's but it had pretty much died out by the 2004 cup run. Eventually I clued in that most of the good posters there had migrated over here. I lurked for a while, but eventually signed up when I had something to say.

As a result of the the 04 run experience, my passion for hockey and thirst for related knowledge was kindled. I got wind of the site, and joined shortly thereafter.
Like most members I lurked for a while before getting up enough nerve to start posting (I had never posted anything on the internet before). I recall the reaction to my first post was "Huh". Obviously I had to train myself to be more accurate, avoid double meanings and stating things as fact when they weren't, and preparing myself to answer the questions my post might generate. Luckily there were many kind members that offered helpful comments, in spite of my rather unenlightened knowledge and questions.
All in all I have enjoyed the time spent on the site. It has been a great learning experience, and the diversion has helped me to overcome some of life's obstacles.

Stumbled onto it looking for flames news ,living in van there isn't much, loved the oiler and nuck bashing and the general hockey knowledge was better than most talking heads on sports shows. Been hanging out ever since
Funny but when I tried joining they weren't taking any more people at the time because of too many trolls had to convince them I wasn't a nucks fan in disguise . Seems like anyone can sign up now

AltaGuy has a magnetic personality and exudes positive energy, which is infectious to those around him. He has an unparalleled ability to communicate with people, whether he is speaking to a room of three or an arena of 30,000.

Oilers fans are stupid everywhere.

Haha - I think the Nucks fans on that board were the strangest group of Internet posters I've ever seen. The forum continues in another place but isn't anything that interests me much. Miss suity though.

long time flames fan, who moved out east for uni, and eventually settled in TO....
in the early 2000s as the flames came back to relevancy thanx to D. Sutter, it was painful to be surrounded by leaf fans and leaf talk, but not be able to talk any flames.
Started lurking the calgaryflames.com forums, and then stumbled upon CP. It's been awesome. Definitely an addiction now.

To kill time at work and straighten out some posters who didn't know what they were talking about.

I remember finding it and thinking - wow, the internet actually IS good for something! I used to read as much as I could about the Flames in the newspapers (remember those?), then found Fire on Ice, and was definitely addicted to all the hockey talk. I never posted a ton, even less now that kids rule my life, but can remember giggling at so much of Reg and Lanny and Cowperson's stuff.
Who knew arguing with strangers about what Bill Lindsay's +/- would be next season could be so fun!?

People on that Other Board kept trash talking this place and I simply had to know what the actual score was. Funnily enough I never post over there anymore. I found this site to be EXPONENTIALLY better informed, and orders of magnitude more mature.

I was frustrated reading the ridiculous posts on the flames.com message board.

Joined after reading allot and a disagreement lead me to join.
Been a major Flames fan since my dad took me in 1982 at the corral.
This forum has been one of the single best things to ever happen to me both personally and in business.
I've met close to 100 people on here and received very generous referrals promoting my business which is the only reason I am self employed successfully today.
Love this place.
