Columbus will probably add Matthews, Puljujarvi, or Laine to their team. Pretty sick.

Jones
Werenski
Murray
Johnson

Pretty decent blueline. Few others as well.

Jones and Johansen run into each other at Columbus airport last night. Jones just arrived in Columbus and Johansen was waiting for his flight to Nashville.
Jones looks to have a few inches height on him. Didn't realize he was that tall.

I think its a great trade for both sides. Johansen needed a change of scenery and to get away from Torts but was struggling and Jones needed to get out from under Weber/Josi/etc.

Win/Win.

Was just listening to Jarmo Kekalainen's spot on Sportsnet talking about the Jones acquisition. One interesting point he made (around the 3:08 mark) is that he thinks NHL defenceman don't hit their peak potential until they have played 300 games in the NHL.

T.J. Brodie is now at 296 games and Dougie Hamilton is at 217 games.

So on this basis Brodie is just hitting his peak now ( and clearly this had been evident with his play this season) while Hamilton should continue to improve and may not hit his peak for another year.

FWIW, Freidman said on Tim and Sid this afternoon that Calgary was in on the Johansen talks with CBJ.

He didn't mention it. We were listed with about six other teams.

Oh likely some combination of Hanowski and Engelland.

Treliving makes it a point to be in on everything. I firmly believe that.

Edit: Just to re-calibrate what we're arguing. My point is that I think that Columbus overpaid to get Jones. Johansen has far more value, because he's a proven #1C. Jones is an excellent prospect, but hasn't shown anything at the NHL level other than the fact that he can easily play defence on the 2nd and 3rd pairings. I see his current level as a #3/4, with a high potential as #2 defencemen. I see a lot of "he's a top pairing defender" or "future superstar" in this thread, and I just don't see it, especially when I compare to someone like Ekblad. I believe that Jones has value closer to the RNH type (which is why I argued for that trade in E=NG), but clearly Johansen is much higher value, and Nashville did well to maximize their return.
I don't want to give the impression that I was arguing against your point that Jones has been sheltered. You're quite right, he has been sheltered and, while I somewhat disagree with the notion that Columbus overpaid for him - I think he's going to be very good, and think his ceiling is higher than you see it to be - I totally agree with your assessment of his overall usage (I quite like QualComp as a stat).

I was merely railing against ZSO% as a stat and your post gave me a good jumping off point for that rant.

Edmonton Oilers general manager Peter Chiarelli offered F Ryan Nugent-Hopkins to the Nashville Predators for D Seth Jones. The Predators declined the offer and accepted Columbus Blue Jackets F Ryan Johansen instead.

Which player would you rather have, Ryan Johansen or Ryan Nugent-Hopkins ?

So the people in Edmonton who said Nashville offered Jones for NH and the Oilers refused are getting it backwards. Shocking.

This year's Johansen is not exactly chopped liver :

GP 42 games 32 pts -3

For comparison:

RNH 44 games 29 pts. -9
Monahan 42 games 28 pts -2

Just because he was traded Jones does not mean we offered Bennett.
