Well as pointed out you're obviously a giant. It's probably best to pay for the extended leg room and not worry so much about people reclining. If it helps tall people have shorter life expectancies so you can spend all the money you won't need for a long retirement on more comfortable plane seats!

Good Lord man, just have them strap you to the fuselage!

To answer the original post's questions, yes there should be an etiquette card. (feet on armrests, handling of carryon baggage, etc, etc).
Although I don't like people reclining, you can't ask them to stop. The etiquette card could just say something like "Please be considerate of the person behind you when reclining" and that's it.

Oh come on. People are self-absorbed if they use a function the airlines installs for their comfort? You anti-recliners are the self-absorbed bunch.
As has been mentioned MANY times before:
1. Pay for upgraded seat if recliners bother you
2. Lobby airlines to remove this function from their seats.
3. Suck it up and use the full benefit of your seat, given to you by the airline you chose to fly with.
Seriously, calling people names, judging their character, and outright denying them the function of their seat is asinine. Grow up.

I think I am like most people, considerate of others as a first response. But most people let themselves be bullied by people like you, who kick seats in a tantrum. So I also respond on their behalf.
And I should respond with words, but my experience is that people like yourself only understand response in kind.

I think you are taking this too far. Most of the anti-recliners here have not been whining. Just stating they prefer the person in front doesn't recline and for good reason.
I am definitely an anti-recliner, but if someone wishes to recline, it's their right. I would rather they did not, but I won't stop them. Since I don't like it being done to me, I usually refrain from reclining as a courtesy to the person behind me. I liken it somewhat to transit travel. I paid my fare same as everyone else, why the heck should I give up my seat for a lady, an elderly or disabled? Why don't those people arrange different transportation for themselves? That's sometimes what pro-recliners sound like.
Most of the pro-recliners here are harping at us tall people to upgrade our seats and stop whining. We aren't whining though. Just saying. (For the record, Economy plus is bull####. Exit rows are 10x better)
It's just plain old consideration for your fellow human being. Yes you have every right to recline. You also have a choice to be a little more considerate to someone behind you who may have a laptop, or long legs, or whatever.

Curious that people here aren't showing the same sympathy for obese people (or even the broad-shouldered) that they show for those with long legs. Is it discourteous for the person in the middle seat to take both of the armrests if the passenger in the window seat is fat, or broad-shouldered? Shouldn't you ask first before you assume you get both armrests?

They should just eliminate air travel as we know it and send everyone like they're a parcel when they want to travel.

Bill brought up a great point earlier- why should he have to pay for being tall? His height didn't happen by choice, but they don't make people in wheelchairs have to pay for wheelchair service.
Why should his height require him to suddenly have to pay?

Yeah, that's what I'm saying
Refer to number 3 or if it's that much of an inconvenience, pay out of pocket for the upgrade. I've done this for hotels when travelling for work.

That's why HuntingWhale's suggestion of good old communication is great. Let the person know you're going to recline and do it slowly so they have time to adjust. Talking to one another would probably alleviate a lot of these issues.

Guys, guys, guys! The key is to get EVERYONE to recline.
As soon as that light goes off the entire plane should hit the recline feature simultaneously.
3 inches for all! Except those poor basterds with non-reclining seats. They have to take one for the team.

A lot of etiquette problems on planes have to do with the airlines themselves.
They have a boarding process that they don't enforce which just causes problems.
Having seats that recline into the knees of anyone 6' or taller.... but they do recline and people have a right to use that feature. Honestly though, I don't find reclining any more comfortable personally. Maybe it's just me, but I think the distance for the recliner is not enough to make it meaningful. It's just a psychological difference, while it is a huge nuisance for the person behind.
Another one that comes up rarely, but often enough, is when there are 2 people (usually a child and adult) that booked single seats, so the flight attendants ask for volunteers to switch seat so the other 2 can seat by each other. Couldn't this be something that the airline sorts out with the customers before boarding?

No please don't fix this. As I said earlier, it brings me a lot of enjoyment to see people budging each other and trying to get on the plane as soon as possible while I sit there and wait until everyone is on the plane and stroll on unimpeded.
People are so stupid when it comes to boarding planes it's ridiculous. It's like they think they're gaining vacation time by sitting on the plane a few minutes earlier or something. Assigned seats and the plane doesn't leave until everyone's on board any way.
