Berdych is serious business right now, no hat and looking really good.

He knew it was out so he wanted to keep his rhythm.

Berdych bagels Nadal. Amazing performance from him, 2 sets in under an hour. Looks like the favourite right now.

Is TSN contractually obligated to show the ESPN feeds?
I can't see Canadians wanting to watch the gimmicky nonsense and pro-American cheerleading over the world feed. I really don't need to see the decibel level that Sharapova is grunting at on the bottom ticker.

I'm no tennis fan (damn all star break) but is Nadal really that likeable? Every time he wins a point he gets a far bigger cheer than Berdych.

This was a beauty from the Sharapova/Genie match and I'm paraphrasing:
"Although Sharapova does consider herself a proud Russian, it's interesting to note she does not live there and has spent more time living in the US than in her home country."
Ah, ESPN!

Ah, ESPN!

And she does not have a Russian accent.

Given ESPN owns a piece of TSN (at least, I believe that is still the case), we're probably always going to get the ESPN/Tennis Channel coverage before ITV. Unfortunately.

I don't mind ESPN Tennis that much. There's good and bad. I believe they are one of the few channels that jump from court to court while international channels are focused on one match.
Cliff Drysdale is awful, needs to be put out to pasture. The women's commentators are ok unless the Williams are playing, then they lose their minds.
Last night's Nadal-Berdych was commentated on by the trio of Patrick McEnroe, Darren Cahill and Brad Gilbert (courtside) and it was really good. Tennis doesn't need a play-by-play guy since there is no talking during play. So a guy like Chris Fowler is useless. People liked Dick Enberg for tennis but other than saying OH MY, he didn't really add anything.
Just get a couple of ex-tennis guys to tell us what happened on the last point and it's fine.

The tolerability of ESPN is inversely proportional to the number of Americans still playing.

I find Nick Lester to be excellent at tennis commentary (also provides some additional insights that I appreciate).

At least on ESPN they call him Milos Raonic and not Milos Ray-O-Nitch like they do on ITV. Holy crap how many times have they heard his name and they still can't pronounce it right?

Which on the men's side is always zero.

I'm such a sap, but the look of pride of Davenport's face when Keys beat V. Williams was pretty special.

Pretty much plays out to form in the first. With no tie breaker in the 5th winning this seems highly unlikely for Milos without a dip in Nole's play.

Wonder when Milos will get over the hump? It seems like Djokovic would have to have a really bad day for that to happen when they meet.

Milos vs Nole will always be a terrible matchup I think. our bionic arm sleeve hero's bread and butter is atomic serves, which are nullified against the world's best returner. once Milos is forced to rally then it's pretty much over because the Djoker cannot be pushed off the baseline with just a bunch of inside out forehands. Fed has been able to beat him on hard court by net rushing like a demon, but Milos will never volley good enough to do that either.
his best hope is just pray he's not in Djoker's half. I like his chances way better against even a Rafa or Fed who can be pushed back with hard hitting.

Genie and Milos effectively have the same problem right now: They have the game to be top 10 players, they simply don't have the arsenal to take down the top players. Even watching Madison Keys it's obvious she has wicked power that Genie simply doesn't have right now. Genie can't play like she did against Sharapova (essentially just hitting balls back to rally) and expect to win. She needs to develop more to the game. A new coach should hopefully do that.
Milos, well, all about that backhand. He doesn't need a Stanimal level backhand (I hope everyone watched his absurdly good backhand display last night), but everyone knows if you can get it on the Raonic backhand you will be able to dictate points. I agree he's got a better chance against Fed or Nadal, but even then he needs a big time serving day to get it done. Milos major winning window realistically won't be opening for at least another full year and probably 2.
