I love year-end lists because I discover new albums I didn't get a chance to hear when they came out. If someone has a list with a bunch of artists I love on it, and a few I don't know, it's a good bet the unknown ones are worth checking out.

You're right that they're subjective, and people shouldn't get upset when someone they like is missing from someone's list. The "Where is ______?" and "Why is _______ ahead of _______?" comments annoy me. If you don't like a list, make your own. Some media outlets even make lists that are deliberately controversial, because they know they'll bring in readers. So take them for what they are, someone's opinion that doesn't have to match your own.

Exactly. The more subjects, the better. Finding new favorites.
High Fidelity was all about lists. It is a compulsion.

Showtime features S.O.B. on the teaser for the upcoming season of Shameless and it's perfect.

Surprised no Coldplay mention yet. Anyway, apparently it's their last album, which in my mind was their weakest. Supposed to be their most mainstream, but about half is pretty lackluster, and for a popish album, wasn't nearly as catchy as their previous stuff. Good production values though (especially well appreciated with headphones). Some was pretty good though, with some Genesis sounding stuff.

Highlights:
Bird
Army Of One
Hymn For The Weekend

I'd link to Youtube but they're not posted there yet - so look them up if you're inclined.

Personally I wasn't a fan of Kendrick Lamar's album, but it seems to be on every list, very very high.
