You know... I... Yeah...

Just not going to take the super obvious bait in this one.

So yeah, don't worry all, I'm not getting a cat.
Most foster homes have pets, and that way when they grow into duds you don't have to be arsed with them

that is a nice garage. Well done. No sarcasm.

Honest question: would you have wrapped the cat leash in LED lights too? Perhaps the cat itself, at least for play purposes?

Not too bad Sliver, thanks for sharing... I don't know if i'd be comfortable leaving a cat in there 24/7 though.

You would probably be doing the cat a favour by putting it down. It can't be enjoying life. If I started randomly crapping throughout my house I would hope someone would be nice enough to put me out of my misery.

It didn't sound like you were facing getting a second mortgage.

Not your fault? Everything you've posted in this thread paints you as an indifferent and ignorant pet owner. I'm hardly convinced.
My bad for trying to illustrate the financial side of the arguement, I never actually had to choose between the two, I just chose not to spend the money on the dog.

Ignorant, well that's a matter of opinion, indifferent, ya pretty much. Like I said, they are animals, not humans. If you died and they were out of food they would pick at your bones and I don't think the other animals would be chastising them for treating their owners bad.

And, if it makes you feel any better, I'm against abortion. I am pretty compasionate towards people. And I am against animal cruelty, dog fighting, leaving pets in cars, all that good stuff.

Except he's not horrible. Spending $2K on an old dog is insane. New ones are free, or at the very least extremely cheap. And, yes, I know you can buy purebred for a lot of money.

They're netting about $48,750 per year ($4000/month).

Of that $4,000 per month, they should be saving 10% of gross or $625, leaving them with $3,375. They're going to have fixed expenses of rent/mortgage of ~$1,500, food/clothing ~$350, utilities ~$275, auto expenses $350, insurance(s) $175, entertainment $200, gifts $25, vacation fund $200, maintenance (house, property) $100, phone $75, and cable/Internet $100. That leaves them with $25 excess money per month. Sure you can say I fudged the numbers, but I think that's a very modest budget while still being realistic.

Telling somebody that $2,000 is something they should have to pay or they're a bad human being is ridiculous. Netting excess money on a modest income is very difficult. The scenario above doesn't even include having kids, RESPs or even the cost of regular care and maintenance on an animal. I didn't have a line item for toiletries, health care, etc. and the vacation budget was abysmally low. Plus, the rent number is probably low.

My point is, when faced with a $2K vet bill a lot of people will give the dog up. Have you been to the SPCA? It's huge! Have you looked on Kijiji for an animal - people are literally giving them away. It's not trolling to point this out. It's a scenario 100s or thousands of Calgarians face all the time.

Sure, if money is no object a $2K vet bill is nothing. To a large percentage of people in this city, it means getting rid of the dog and - in many cases - getting a new one for less money/free.

He's a pathetic little man craving attention by intentionally pissing other people off. I find no humor whatsoever with personalities like his or in his posts in general. Unfortunately they're like a bad car accident, I don't want to look, but I can't help it.

Hopefully one day the mods help me out with that. The sooner the better imo.
