Islanders Grabner is out with a concussion. Doesn't bode well for us. If only they could play Vanvouver more!!
I don't think Buff takes Ekblad. The reason IMO is twofold:
1) They don't need more D prospects. They have a glut of them in Pysyk, Ristoleinen, and Zadorov to name the main ones.
2) I don't understand why they would draft Ekblad and then trade one of their D prospects, unless they aren't really impressed with one of them. If that's the case, you'd think other teams' scouts would perhaps see the same thing. Maybe not. That said and notwithstanding, they're not likely to get a more established player at forward with similar upside in return. Just doesn't really make sense.
I think they take Reinhart/Bennett as their own homegrown player.

I wonder if Buffalo takes Ekblad if they plan on trading Myers/Ehrhoff in the off-season. I'd much rather have them end up with Ekblad then the stinkin' Oilers.

Doubtful as they have some decent defensive prospect and Reinhart probably fills a bigger need for them. That means the Panthers/Oiler/Flames would be in the running for Ekblad.

They will definitely try, it will be the worst kept secret of the draft. They want defensemen that can help now.

I think this is true. I just can't think of a team that has a top pairing defenceman that they are willing to give up... Maybe buffalo would trade Myers and erhoff for the oilers first round pick + 3rd round pick.

The reason for Buffalo to take Ekblad is because despite having amazing defensive prospects none of them are expected to be a franchise defenseman. If your scouts believe Ekblad is one and they don't believe Reinhart/Bennett/Draisaitl are more impressive then you can pick Ekblad and really move forward with the best young defense in the league. Potentially grab a couple franchise forwards next year with their pick and the Islanders.
That's the reason they could. I think it's more likely they take a forward but I don't think Ekblad should be 100% discounted.

Last year we picked 6th and I wanted any of my 5 top players. Thanks to Carolina we got one of them in Monahan.
This year it looks like we'll pick 5th and I want any of my top 4 players, Ekblad, Reinhart, Bennett or Draisaitl. Here's hoping someone ahead of us steps up and takes someone else.

I hope the Sabres take Ekblad since the Oilers are high on Draisaitl anyways.
Buffalo - Ekblad
Oilers - Draisaitl
Islanders/Panthers - Reinhart/Dal Colle
Flames then have a choice between Bennett and Reinhart/Dal Colle.
