Those look pretty decent. Although it is hard to judge scale, it looks like those might fit a 9x12 envelope without bending (plus numerous other sizes of smaller packets), which would be an improvement on the current square ones.

It looks like there are parcel boxes on the bottom. I have them where I pick up my mail and it sure beats having to go 10k to the post office each time I have a package.

I order tons of stuff online and I hate having to goto the office to pick up my stuff. Most of it is small anyways and they kept on closing the community post offices. These new mailboxes look like they'll be nice for parcels, especially the ones that come in the small bubble mailers! So in communities with the old style boxes, will they just pull those out and replace them with these?

I doubt communities with existing boxes will be getting new style boxes for a while. This is year one of 5 of setting up new boxes in areas that don't already have them.

Anyone else having to deal with poorly placed community junk mail collectors...errr...mailboxes and zero cooperation for finding a new site from Canada Post?

They have decided to put the community chinese food menu depository...errr...mailbox right across the street from me. I live across the street from fishcreek and here is my view. The red box is where the mailboxes are going.

I have been in contact with Canada Post trying to get it relocated around the corner from me...2 houses to the left of the view above. See below for exact location. This location would not be blocking any view and is much more discrete.

They said that they cannot use that space as their is not enough room yet if you go to the right of my house there are many existing community mailboxes in the exact same place with the same amount of space.

So far I am at my 4th point of contact at Canada Post and they don't even try and help they just say "that is where it is going". My neighbors have put in their concerns to Canada Post and I have contacted The City of Calgary but they can't help because this is federal.

Is this me just having a "get off my lawn" moment or do I have a legit concern that they are placing garbage collector in the middle of my view of a beautiful park? If it is legit what else can I do? I need answers quick as I was able to postpone the excavators this AM.

This seems pretty NIMBY-ish to me, honestly. Or technically NIMFY-ish. Especially as you are pre-disposed against it, calling it a garbage collector.

But if you want to persist, you may want to mention that the proposed site is incredibly close to a fire hydrant, which could lead to issues should the hydrant be needed and/or leading to traffic stopping in front of it.

You've been told 4 times by 4 different people that they aren't interested in listening to you. Might just be time to suck it up.

Its a view, probably the lowest priority of all. I think you're taking this a bit far. I'm sure your neighbour would be thrilled by the prospect of having CP put boxes on his lawn so you are spared a 0.5% reduction in unblemished viewing.

That is not a bad spot at all. People don't like change so I can see why at first you might not like it. Ive seen quite a few people with legitimate concerns where its put essentially in their front yards or adjacent to the side of their home. In your case, its across the street. Consider yourself lucky they didn't decide to put it in your front yard and then not listen to you.

And I do get your concern as Im worried where they put on my street as well.

Is there a website you can look up where the mailbox will be for your house?

That actually looks like a perfect location for a mailbox like that. Not adjacent to anyone's property, unlikely to be blocked by parked cars, and super convenient for you (without being too close).

If you're not a fan of unaddressed admail (who is?), just put a sicker or label inside your mailbox (when it gets installed) that says "Please no unaddressed admail or flyers" and you'll never see one again. Actually, you could be doing that on your current mailbox if it bothers you so much.

It also looks like you have one ground floor window on that side of the house anyway, so it's really your garage that should be the one complaining about losing its view.

They'll send out mail telling you where the location will be once it's been decided. I got mine middle of last week.

http://globalnews.ca/news/1955661/ca...after-outrage/

Canada Post says it changed over 700 locations across the country last year after concerns from neighbourhood residents.

Nicole Norris had been fighting for weeks to stop a large community mailbox in front of her living room window on the sidewalk outside her house in Cedarbrae.

After inquiries from Global News, she says the are now relocating the box across the street where an old mail carrier drop box once stood.

“They changed their mind,” she said. “You think that you have this good point and you try to compromise with them and they don’t want to hear anything you have to say. Well just don’t give up, because we didn’t, and now they are moving it.”

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/hamilt...oxes-1.3044905

The city of Hamilton is going to court against Canada Post to try to stop the corporation from installing new super mailboxes.

The city became the first last week to pass a bylaw dictating that the corporation get a $200 permit for each community mailbox it wants to install on municipal property. The mailboxes are part of the corporation's plan to phase out urban door-to-door mail delivery across the country, including 117,000 Hamilton homes over the next 10 years.

But Canada Post says it doesn't have to follow the city's rules, and is going ahead with installing mailboxes on the Mountain this week anyway. It says the federal Canada Post Corporation Act trumps the municipality's rules.

Municipal law expert John Mascarin told CBC Hamilton last week that Canada Post is the likely victor in any court challenge, since federal laws trump municipal ones.

I doubt the proximity to a hydrant will matter. In fact, I'd think that would be preferred because it kills two birds with one stone. People can't park in front of a hydrant anyway, and people stopping to grab their mail will only be stopped there for a minute at most.

My sister has lived across the street from a mailbox for 25+ years and there's a hydrant only a short distance away from it.

Yeah, I figured as much. To me, it seems like a great location for both. I was trying to offer a possible avenue to pursue if he'd not thought of it.

Default Canada Post halts controversial community mailbox program

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada-post-c...lbox-1.3289647

Quote:
Canada Post is suspending the conversion of door-to-door delivery to community mailboxes.

In a news release issued late Monday, Canada Post spokeswoman Anick Losier said the corporation will work "collaboratively" with the government of Canada to determine the best path forward given the challenges in the postal system.

"Efforts are now underway to place the comprehensive program on hold in an orderly fashion," Losier said in the release. "This involves roughly 460,000 addresses across the country which are currently in the process to be converted to community mailboxes."

Terrible decision. Community boxes are far more secure and efficient. CanadaPost needs to maintain profitability and an old relic service like home delivery needs to go.

People are opposed to losing it for sheer sake of fearing change.

People who want delivery to their house should pay for it themselves, and it should be a break-even cost. Canada post could make some money of it if they implemented it right.

Everyone else should get the community mailboxes at zero cost, ie/ whatever we pay in taxes. This includes all places currently getting home delivery.

This way, even people in newer communities can pay for increased service, and the older communities get what everyone else gets... no one is getting anything special unless they pay extra for it.
