The thing is scoring goals wasn't the problem last year. We were 11th best and iirc the 29th worse team defensively.
This IMO is a step backwards.

Like I said earlier in the thread, we need defensive help. And I see a perfect trading partner right now in Nashville.
They didn't get a chance to land their big producing forward in Barkov, and there was no way to turn down Jones, but now they're overloaded with defensive talents and still not much, probably not enough to get them into the playoffs up front.
Cammalleri, Stempniak, even Glencross. Any of those guys would be a big help to the Preds offense right now, and they have young developing D in Ellis, Blum that we most certainly could use more of.

Baertschi-Backlund-Hudler
Glencross-???-Stempniak
Raymond-Stajan-Jones
???-Knight-Galliardi
That's how I see it right now...
Bouma, Horak, Jackman are "question-marks"...and we still need a 2nd line center

Nashville or Phoenix seem like the two most likely teams to trade defensemen.
I think the two most common names for Phoenix is Morris and Klesla. Morris is too old, but Klesla could be had for pretty cheap. Maybe even Stone (Calgary Ties). And Phoenix could use a Winger, something we have plenty of.

It all depends on the contract for me. I don't want them spending a lot of money on a softer guy.

I don't see the point in signing Raymond, other than maybe "warm body" and "tradeable at the deadline".

Horak at 21 81 NHL games
Raymond at 21 zero NHL games.
Kind of early to be making that judgement on Horak.
Out of the 2009 draft Horak is ranked 22 in number of NHL games played. There are 15 1st round picks from that year that have less than 81 NHL games.

Mason is from Cochrane, and his favorite team growing up was the Calgary flames.

Why not Zybnek Michalek? 6 foot 2, 210 pounds 30 years old and a right handed a shot. $4,000,000 for two more seasons. He had 2 assists in 36 games so he comes very very cheap. We could also pull some more picks or prospects out of them as well

As much as we all love to hate the guy, depending on what the return for him would be, that wouldn't be the worst thing ever...

I thought we were talking about needing defensive help. I don't think Phaneuf qualifies.

Pretty sure his wife is from Winnipeg too, so I'd assume he would want to come Calgary or Winnipeg.

I think Michalek actually makes too much myself. And with an Limited NTC, he's going to have to want to come to Calgary to be traded. Less the right handed shot, you've essentially got the same sort of player with Klesla (who goes into beast mode during the playoffs) for $1M less and no restricted movement. I think Rusty is a little meaner too and would be more of a physical presence on the blueline.
Stone right now is an RFA off his first contract. He might be signable in the $2M range and a steal. He's a right handed shot, he's a former Calgary Hitmen and from what I remember of him on the Hitmen, he was a pretty offensive defenceman. And also a little on the mean side.
