It's certain. With the Canadian and US media repeating the story of Sakic recommending to Popeye Jones that Seth work on his skating, one can only imagine how much this is being played up in Denver. Plus, the Avs need help on D.

I think i am the biggest hater of Feaster on CP ( if not, damm close) and even i will not put this in the bad column for Feaster. I actually like what he tried to do.

So this deal is arguably still very alive and it's just a matter of waiting for the 1st pick to be made. I would never rule anything out with Tallon.

Basically what I hate about this is that instead of doing it right, they are wanting to go the Oilers route of amassing several shiny toys instead of building a team that is built right. Getting your depth together followed by getting the skill is how Anaheim won in 07, how Pittsburgh won in 09, the Hawks did in 10, Boston in 11, and LA last year. Teams that try to get the skill first without the supporting cast flounder aka, Florida, New York Islanders, Edmonton, etc.
I'd rather be in the former group that in the latter.

Wouldn't be a surprise if Jay turns around and makes the same offer to Florida then!

The reason Chicago and Boston are in the finals is that they both have great depth, speed and tenacity. Lots of quality players. Guys like Kane, and Chara are nice, but you have to have lots of A level players. Pittsburgh has Crosby and Malkin, but has one cup and final appearance, where in the same time period the Bruins and Hawks have a cup and another appearance. The Flames should not blow this chance to start loading up on the depth that is required for success.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if the Avs turned down the offer because of the O'Reilly offer sheet?

Trade 6, 22 and 28 for 2nd overall
then
Trade Cammalleri to Columbus for one of their firsts
Tanguay and a prospect to Colorado for their second

Yeah but if Jones goes first there will be a massive bidding war and Tallon will just take the best one which would be more than 3 picks

Those 3 picks could be Brassard + Giroux + N Foligno (2006) but more likely you get Brule + Lashoff + Niskanen type players. I don't care how deep this draft is.

How does this get out? Probably Avs returning the favour for the offer sheet. Feaster shows his hand as usual

I have a question that I want people to take seriously:
Would you trade Towes and two first round picks for Crosby?

Maybe with Huberdeau winning the Calder, Florida may be willing to accept the same trade. I think for the Panthers, you have to see who gets drafted first overall before you're willing to part with your pick.

6, 22, 28 isn't getting the top 2. Start adding pieces

Reinhart, Ekblad and Ho Sang are all in the same conversation as Drouin/MacKinnon in terms of talent, the difference is that those draft do not have nearly the same about of depth as this one.
The player we would pick at 22 will be similar to a guy picked 12-14 in past years and the one at 28 would be more in the 18-22 range.
We can finally have a good prospect pool after decades of being one of the worst teams in that regard and instead we're looking at throwing that away when we are nowhere near ready to return to being decent.
|
I can get on board with what you're selling, cagedgreat. I think where I'm coming from is the fact that we just don't have that franchise player and that's what Mackinnon would be. I agree that you can't ignore everything to get that franchise player, but what I struggle with is that I believe getting that franchise player to build around is the toughest task in a rebuild, and we're pretty close in this draft, and yet so far away, and if they would agree to that trade, I just think you do it, and then work on aquiring more picksin the upcoming drafts, where we'll still be a weak team.
It's a catch 22, you give up too many picks to aquire that franchise player, and you end up with a superstar and not enough of a supporting cast to do anything special, or you could build a strong supporting cast, but never succeed aquiring/growing that franchise player, and you end up with a strong supporting cast built around no one in particluar and you're just as far away from being a contender.

How can you say that? The guy was on pace for 65 points this past season when the Flames were having a horrific season and scored 39 goals in the past with the Flames.
His years in Montreal can be attributed to a bad fit with him speaking out in the media but he has had success everywhere else. A team like Columbus can really benefit with Gaborik and Cammalleri on the wings with a guy like Dubinsky in the middle. He is still only 31 years old.

Depends who those picks turn out to be. History shows that they could have been Claude Giroux and Shea Weber. Crosby is special, but I'd take Toews, Giroux and Weber over Crosby.

Keep 6, 22, 28
Trade Cammalleri + Stempniak to Columbus for 27 + 3rd
Trade Tanguay for a mid 2nd.
Acquire other team's cap problems for mid/late picks.
Have 8 picks in the top 75, spend like drunken sailors in the UFA period to hit the floor.
