I guess not. Not sure if i was the kid sitting next to him that i would like to hear that i was not one of the top 4 elite players, in front of a national audience. It's not like the kid is being taken 13th. At 6th you might feel that you could be one of the top4.

I don't think any kid just drafted would have the stones to ask the question anyways.

Would not be the kid asking. It would be the TSN guy that gives the sit down interview with new player and GM.
It's not a big deal what Feaster said. I probably would not have said it being in a top 6 position, especially with TSN loving to bring back old comments from Feaster.

There is no way they ask that in front of the kid - no way
Draft day is a big love-in, they are only throwing up lollipops in those interviews

Kinda like Duthie asking Feaster point blank if he guarantees the Flames are going to make the playoffs, just so TSN can resurrect that quote every year?

Falsely assuming the top four ranked players are the four players Feaster is referring to. Lindholm or "the Russian" or Nurse or any number of players could end up being a franchise player. Hell we might get one of the big four with our sixth pick if others go off the board.
Feaster will likely claim whoever we pick was one of the four. And he may not be lying about it either. They said Jankowski and Sven will be at the top of their class in hindsight as well.
All this is moot anyways, since we're winning the lottery in a couple hours.

It seems funny that lots of people who think a proper rebuild has to take a minimum of 3 sub-par years, are the same people who want to buyout Tanguay. If we're going to be terrible for the next couple seasons, why would Edwards pay 7 million to get a guy off the team, who isn't a detriment to the teams goal? Also, he is a skilled enough player to put up respectable points on a bad team, which would make him decent trade bait. His term is a hindrance, but I still think there's a market it for him if he can keep the sulking down and put up some points.

I understand the money aspect you are pointing out, however, for him to be effective he has to play top 6 minutes. As a result, other younger players will not get enough playing time as it is one less spot for them.

On top of that you can use your compliance buy out next off season as well. Since you have to pay over double the remaining term you might as well have him play one year to try and minimize the term length.

Didn't Feaster sign tanguay to that 4 year deal of $3.5M. Guess he must be regretting it now.

CP's hatred for Tanguay is ridiculous. Before getting injured, he was leading the team in scoring. 3.5M for a leading scorer is not something you regret.
I don't think he fits in the Flames future plans, but he's an asset that could be easily traded, IMO.

Did Feaster figure this out before or after he signed Hudler??
A small team in 2011/12 with the 2 best prospects (Brodie and Baertschi) being really small goes out and makes a small guy their #1 UFA signing. And dumps Hannan and Kostopolus....... this is after down-sizing from Bourque to Cammelleri and from Regehr to Butler and Byron.
all of the sudden we need more size and grit and have a snowball's chance to compete.
Who could possibly have seen this coming??
Now the Flames are clearly in a position that they have to take the bigger player in the grouping. Luckily Mackinnon and Drouin will be gone when the Flames pick because while they will be ready to join most NHL teams they would not be successful in the NHL because by default their line-mates would be small.
The Flames were forced to do hide Baertshi in the AHL this year because they didn't have enough grit to protect him.
Hopefully Lindholm is off the board when the Flames pick as he is 5' 11" Shinkaruck and Domi would also not be on the Flames list.

The Flames were forced to put Baertschi in the AHL because of a lockout and because he was only getting fourth line minutes and line-mates. Moving out Iginla and Comeau opened up ice-time for him in the top nine.

Exactly. Why would you buy him out when he can probably fetch a 2nd rounder for him? 3.5M isn't some crazy cap hit or dollar term. His salary is about the going rate for what he produces.

The Flames gave up a 2nd round pick to avoid paying Kotalik $3m (who could have been buried with no cap hit). So they might or might buy someone out, but we do know that they have (relatively recently) been willing to move assets to avoid paying a guy not to play.
So I don't see them paying one of their top-3 scorers a cheque for $7m (or whatever the buyout penalty is) to go play for a competitor, when there's no worry about hitting the cap, and plenty of ice time to go around.
Trade him, waive him, send him to the ECHL to pump up the point totals of guys like Howse so you can trade them for picks, have him dress up like a clown at kids' birthday parties, whatever.
There's no way that buying him out is the best use of the asset, or that money.

I am not sure the Flames will draft for current need. They have shown in the draft that they take the player they think is the best player available.
Whether it be John Gaudreau who was passed on due to being so small, or Jankowski who they like due to his skill and height.
I would not be at all surprised to see the Flames draft a Domi, or Petan in this draft, even though the team is small already.
