This would be the definition of selling low

I think no matter when they trade Kipper it will be selling low. The flames have lost their top line winger for picks and prospects and will probably lose their top d man to picks and prospects. Next year the flames will be as bad if not worse. Kipper's value is not going to be getting any higher. They needed to trade him last summer or before that.

At best Kipper gets a 2nd. That's fine with me. I have a feeling the second he touches down in Finland for the summer, if he is not on a team that can compete he calls it a career.

Why do the Leafs even need a goaltender like Kipper? Reimer and Scrivens have played well for them.

Flames were really high on Matt Finn last year, could see him being the target.

My guess: Scrivens+Finn for Kipper

No way you give this guy up for a mere third round pick.

Right? Someone hold me...
A year or two ago, no way. Today? A 3rd round pick and a no-name prospect is probably fair value. Flames are selling low on him right now.

The Iginla trade should have reset your analysis of these trades.

GMs do not trade for what players once were. They trade for who players are what they will likely be.

Not sure why the Pens would want him, unless it's to be their 3rd string goalie. It's got to be a team looking for a 1b/backup goalie, the Pens don't need that.

Should get a first round pick or high end prospect minimum. Or else we should try and convince him to play one more year as a Flame.
Kiprusoff was one of the best goalies in the game five years ago. At this point, he has not played any better than Jose Theodore or Simyeon Varlamov. Christ, Leland Irving has better stats than Kipper.

Kiprusoff is not a high-end goalie anymore. He is old. He may or may not retire at season's end, and the goalie market itself has never really lent itself to massive overpayments. Kipper is not worth a first rounder or a high-end prospect.

I hope the Flames have some sort of a plan in place when it comes to replacing Kiprusoff if they deal him.

nonis has been pretty clear (to the media for whatever that's worth) that they aren't willing to part with high picks/prospects for a position they feel has been a strength this year.

I think if we can get anything back we really need to make the move, however, i feel this will also be a "iginla-esque" disappointment to the flames fan base in the short term.

My dream would be for a 2nd round pick that becomes a 1st if they win a round, but i doubt the price is that high.

There's no rush to replace Kiprusoff. We're not competing for the next 2-3 years or longer anyway.

Pick up a goaltender when the time comes to finally make a playoff push. Until that time, live with pieces already in the organization like Ramo and let Gillies and Brossoit develop.

so let me get this straight...most were expecting Kipper to retire after 15 meaningless games and now some scoff at the possibility of him being moved

take what you can get and move on

Also NMC really hurt the return for a player. Kipper might not have a clause but it looks like they are treating it as a NMC.

For that reason, I wouldn't be surprised if CAL dealt him to TOR and and picked up half the cap hit/money.

TOR prob needs (or wants, could use) the cap space, CAL is probably fine with picking up half the cap hit/money if it improves the return.

I think if/when this deal does go down folks are going to be really upset with the return.

If Kipper is retiring, a conditional 2nd is the best we could all hope for.

If he is staying around however, and we can't get better than a Conditional 2nd, I'd rather we just hold on to the guy and see what happens in the summer or next year. Chances are, his play and value will bounce back next year.

Young guys with little NHL experience let alone play-off experience.

Plus it isn't like the reports are saying they are giving up much.

Give up a second for a guy that can come in and POSSIBLY win you a play-off round isn't much to give up.

Cool, now perhaps a bidding war... like a giant weight being lifted off the Flames shoulders, it will be such a breath of fresh air going into next season!
