Yeah Stajan has been decent for a few games but... I don't think he should get the "fricken" qualifier.. Maybe he will score 6 goals this year?

BTW, what a huge rebound on a routine shot.

Score on the Canucks in a crucial moment of a crucial game to send them packing for the summer? That's a pretty good enough qualifier for me.

Really like the Ferland, Stajan, Colborne line. Stajan adds a solid vet presence. Colborne is a big body. Ferland hits everything he sees. Exactly what a bottom six line should be. They go out and make things difficult for the other team.

Sometimes a veteran player is more useful then a younger guy in that same role, and I don't see any reason to toss Stajan away at the moment.

I have to disagree with you. He is overpaid and the Flames cap situation is not great particularly going into next year. Stajan's contract contributes to that. I don't see the Flames 4th line as one of the best in the league.
Flames need to save their money for elite talent IMO and get younger and cheaper on our bottom lines and bottom pairing D.
I do really like Stajan. Solid player and great person. But you don't win championships paying guys like him that kind of money.

Stajan played great last night. And that clinching goal against the stinking Nucks buys him a LOT of free passes.

I can understand where you are coming from but I suggest that Stajan's contract isn't terrible. Stajan is extremely valuable on the PK and can play up the depth chart if needed. It's not a great contract but keep in mind that Smid makes more money than he does. Ladislav "Perennial Seat-Warmer" Smid. At least Stajan contributes on the ice.

I believe Matt Stajan is the best 4th line center in the league that has 1 goal and makes 3.375 million.

I agree with that. He never gets scratched so he's obviously a consistent performer. However I just wish he was contributing a little more points wise right now. I know that's not exactly his role, but he does have some finishing and playmaking ability.
If he had 15 points or so right now, Backlund would look verrrrry expendable at the deadline.

Really unfair to call him that since he's not a bench-warmer... he hasn't played much because he is still recovering from an almost career-ending injury, not because he's playing poorly.

He's one of the heart and soul players on the team. With what happened with his family and how he redeemed himself I don't give a crap about his salary, I would be happy if he stays in the organization and is honored when he's long retired.
He took crap from the cities media for years, never complained, never gave up and never had a bad attitude. He'd probably be a good coach one day.

Didn't he invite Bennett to a dinner at his home when he first came to Calgary?
