I voted no, but given how much more disgusted I get by human nature, I'm almost hoping for something catastrophic on Friday.

Either way, the Mayans were long gone before the Spanish arrived.
The calander isn't based of "predictions" per-se. They're not claiming to be able to see the future. It's based of some sort of actual cycle, the thing that the doomsday sayers don't seem to get is that cycles don't "end". They loop.

The thing is, there is no suggestion, not even a hint, in Maya writing that they thought the end of this current b’ak’tun had any connection to doomsday. It’s entirely possible it may have even been thought of as a time of celebration (just like we celebrate New Year’s Eve).
The Maya also had bigger units of time, including the piktun (which was either 13 or 20 b’ak’tun), and the alautun, which was—get this—63 million years! So it doesn’t sound like they were predicting the end of the world ever, let alone by this weekend.
Anyway, it hardly matters. Just like our calendar, theirs was based on cycles. At the end on a cycle, you reset all the current units and move the biggest one up a notch. It’s what we do on December 31: Reset to the first day of the first month, and increment the year by one. Happy New Year! Same thing with the Long Count. After the last day of the 13th b’ak’tun, they’d start over at the next one.

I was watching a show the other night where they were interviewing Mayan decendents about the "Mayan Apocalypse". None of them had any idea what he was talking about.

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm gearing up for a good ol' zombie apocalpse. Can't wait to use the "come at me bro!" phrase while I shoot myself some zombies!

The obvious answer to a zombie apocalypse is to kill a couple of stragglers not part of the herd and use the blood and guts to cover your house and car with so that the herd when passing doesnt smell the human flesh.
Then you live comfortably in your own home and when you need to leave for food or other such things your car is already prepared with said guts and blood making transportation easy.

Forgive me if this is old news on CP, but I scanned the thread and couldn't find anything...
Anyways, anyone seen this Gangnam Style/Apocalypse spoof video? Apparently some person or group made up a Nostradamus verse on the Dec 21 2012 Apocalypse with an odd tie in to the Gangnam Style phenom. It seems to be convincing plenty of gullible nuts judging by what I have seen on Facebook.
Here is the video:

As I post this there are apparently 23 people who post on CP who believe the world is going to end on December 21 2012.
How 'bout that.

I'm one of the Easternmost CP'ers ... I think Flame_of_Liberty is further East, being in Sydney, but you can't trust anything that guy posts - so I'll let y'all know if anything is happening.
With less than 6 hours to go until Dec. 21 here in Taipei, this is scrolling around the top of Taipei 101 right now:

A couple of years ago when I was in Mexico, we went on one of those Mayan cultural tours and they talked a little bit about 2012. Our Mayan guide explicitly said that that Mayans don't even believe there will be an apocalypse and that to many, it is offensive that people still associate modern Mayans as being a followers of a death cult.
