I'm sure the Flames won't get a Top 5 pick as I don't think we'll suck for another 40+ games, but if we somehow get into the Top 5 we'll get a stud prospect. If the draft wasn't so stacked I think 4 of the 5 would be top 1 picks in any other draft. I'm hoping for MacKinnon or Barkov at this point though, so let's get in the top 3.

Also, we need more 1st's this year. Columbus may make out like bandits with this draft having 3 first's.

25% is the best odds based on 14 teams. Break's down like this (NBA model):

1.) 25%
2.) 19.9%
3.) 15.6%
4.) 11.9%
5.) 8.8%
6.) 6.3%
7.) 4.3%
8.) 2.8%
9.) 1.7%
10.) 1.1%
11.) 0.8%
12.) 0.7%
13.) 0.6%
14.) 0.5%

So even though the worst team only has a 1/4 chance of picking 1st, it's still the best odds out of the 14 teams. Not like the 48% chance worst place used to get. But I am still trying to find out if they're going to make all the selections lottery based, or just who gets 1st.

Interesting note that the 1993 Orlando Magic won the lottery with only a 1.5% chance, so it does happen.

Just checked to see what picks the Flames have for the upcoming draft. They have:

1st
3rd
4th
6th
7th (2)

Their 2nd rounder went to the Canadiens in the Cammalleri trade. Our fifth went to Washington for Wideman's rights. Our original 7th rounder was swapped with the Ducks 7th round pick in the Jason Jaffray/Logan MacMillan trade. Plus the Flames received that extra 7th rounder in exchange for Karlsson.

I expect Feaster to get one 2nd rounder back. I hope more than one. Heck, maybe a big trade for another 1st rounder could happen.

Would definitely love to see the Flames have 2 first rounders in this draft, it really seems like there are some amazing talents in the top 30. Have the Flames ever drafter twice in the first round?

nope, never happened (Flames Draft History). 2013 would be a good year to do it though

I can almost see the Flames drafting twice in the first round more than acquiring another 2nd rounder.

If the trading deadline were today, with the Flames fifth from the bottom, I could see (although I DON'T want to see it), Iggy (or Kipper for that matter) being traded and the Flames acquiring a first rounder this year-albeit a late first rounder- amongst a few other assets, in return for Iggy.

I do believe Feaster though when he says he really wants to re-sign Iggy. I guess, Jarome wouldn't be the first guy who's stuck with a team that has rebuilt/retooled and has gone on to more success...Brind'Amour, Selanne to an extent have done so...hard to think of others...Ray Lewis, John Elway:/

Drouin is making it hard to not choose him first overall.

What a top 4 in this draft class.

No kidding. Drouin and MacKinnon are both absolute studs for Halifax. Seth Jones is going to be a Top 2 D-man and Barkov is putting up 40 points in 43 games as a 17 year old in the SM-Liiga, he's also listed as 6'3" and 205lbs.

Of course I want the Flames to win, but realistically we aren't making the playoffs, especially with Kipper down (even if it is only for two weeks). Though this is a very Oiler-esque mentality, if we aren't going to make the playoffs, might as well crash and burn because this is DEFINITELY the year to do it. We don't even need to be last in the conference let alone the entire league to have an amazing player.

I love how Feaster said he wouldn't trade away picks only to trade away our 2nd rounder in back to back years.

Feaster traded 7 picks away, but acquired 6 too - when you look at it, he essentially exchanged a first, two seconds, a fifth and a seventh, but acquired another second while giving away two fifths. Not too shaby.

Picks acquired by Feaster:

1st rounder 2012 from BUF (#21 - Mark Jankowski)
2nd rounder 2011 from NYR (#45 - Markus Granlund)
2nd rounder 2011 from NYR (#57 - Tyler Wotherspoon)
2nd rounder 2012 from BUF (#42 - Patrick Sieloff)
5th rounder 2012 from MTL (#124 - Ryan Culkin)
7th rounder 2013 from CHI

Picks traded away by Feaster:

1st rounder 2012 to BUF (#14 - Zemgus Girgensons)
2nd rounder 2012 to BUF (#44 - Jake McCabe)
2nd rounder 2013 to MTL
5th rounder 2011 to NYR (#133 - Shane McColgan)
5th rounder 2012 to NJD (#135 - Graham Black)
5th rounder 2013 to WSH
7th rounder 2011 to ATL (#193 - Colin Blackwell)

1. SETH JONES D 6'4 208 R Oct. 3/94 Portland WHL
2. VALERY NICHUSHKIN F 6'4 196 L Mar. 4/95 Chelyabinsk RusS
3. NATE MACKINNON C 6'0 182 R Sep. 1/95 Halifax QMJHL

These are the latest rankings from ISS. Nate is ranked third which I thought was interesting. Drouin was fourth.

No way Nichushkin breaks the top 5.

With the Russian factor, no. From the quality of prospect that he is, it isn't out of the question. Have you seen him play (outside of the WJ)? This guy is good.

I thought he was particularly bad at the WJC.

Nichushkin?

He was arguably the Russians best forward and dominant at times.

I don't really count the two 2nd rounders acquired in the Erixon deal. Those 2 second rounders would not have been realized had Erixon not refused to sign with us.

Therefore he has moved out two 2nds (Regehr trade and Cammalleri trade) and recouped one (trading down from 14th overall for 21 and 42nd picks).

I'd just enjoy having our own 2nd rounder for once, and not have to move assets or trade down to recoup them. I can just see Feaster moving a pick at the deadline for a veteran to help us make a playoff push.

He's publicly said it was stupid of him to trade for Modin that one time. I think he's learned his lesson haha.

Can any of you regular Hitmen watchers comment a bit on Cody Sylvester? Any pro upside? Dustin thinks his brother would make a good pro, but obviously he's biased haha.

Should the Flames take a flyer on him? He's gone undrafted the last couple of seasons, will be get picked this time around?
