Son of a...
So in addition to waking up at 4am to get a reservation on the damn thing, i get to pay a $60 hardware upgrade fee, a $35 activation fee and about $15 in taxes. Ah well, I use the phone so much each and every day it's not really a big deal when you factor in the other crap I spend money on. I spent $300 on my 3GS about 27 months ago which works out to about $.37 per day (a way better deal than sponsoring one of those African kids).
I'm going to have a hard time convincing my wife that I can't wake up at 6 to walk the dog when I can very easily wake up at 4 to spend $300 on a phone.

FYI: I could be misinformed on this, but I read somewhere that if you want to use bluetooth with the new voice control features you need to use a bluetooth headset. The IPhone 4S does not support other forms of bluetooth for this voice software (i.e directly installed in your care). I would assume the phone calling features would work on any bluetooth, but I don't know.
For me, I do most of my thinking when I am alone in the car, so it would help if I could set reminders hands-free while driving.

Where do you find the info about the fees?

Pricing info is up on Rogers redboard. Basically the same pricing scheme as the iPhone 4. My number in line is 182.

From what I understand, you are eligible for an upgrade at Rogers starting at 30 months into a standard 3 year contract. If you want to upgrade before the 30 month date, you can pay $15/month for the number a months remaining until you do hit the 30 month mark.
If Russic is paying $60, he must be on month 26.

Hmmm, i'm 1313 w/ fido. Anyone have a clue as to how fast these queue's normally move, assuming a somewhat steady supply? Pre-ordered the 64gig black. Was going to try and hold out until the i5, but my battery is toast on the 3gs

Yes, you are correct.
I called Rogers and talked to a csr who couldn't tell me the price of the phone, but could tell me the charge if I ordered it.
Damn snooze button. I ordered it around 4:15 and am 541st in line for a 16 gig black model. At 4:15 am you have to be verrrry careful reviewing the statement to make sure you're reserving the item you actually want. I was all blurry and squinty.

I am #2130 something for a 32GB 4s - still debating if I should just keep my 3GS for another year and be contract free.

Download the DMG and mount it. Copy the ipsw to your desktop.
Back up your iPhone.
Download and install iTunes 10.5 beta 9.
Plug in your phone.
Put the phone in DFU mode by:
Hold Power and Home Buttons for 3 seconds
let go of the power button and hold home for 10 seconds
let go of home and the phone's screen should be black with no backlight on at all
Your phone should show up in iTunes but only the summary section will show.
Option click Restore (Mac) or Shift click (Windows) and navigate to the ipsw file. RESTORE not update!
The phone will update to iOS 5.
Follow the remaining instructions and choose to restore from iTunes back up when prompted.

I am far from an Apple Fanboy; but I would seriously consider making an appointment with one of their geniuses at the Apple store. Odds are you are no longer under warranty, but go in and see how much they want for a battery. Of course, bring some Android pamplets with you to read while you wait; and tell them you aren't sure if it's worth paying money to fix your 3GS or if you should just buy another phone.
The folks at the Apple store are pretty determined to be as helpful as they can be; they might be able to do something for you. Just make sure you sync to iTunes before you go as they may just swap out the phone all together. (They did for my battery issue; and silly me lost a few dozen pictures.)

I was there today, someone with a smashed screen (look as if a rock smoked the screen) got a free replacement. He was under warranty and the "genius" just said "So it looks like your phone is in mint condition, right?"

My wife's been trying to reserve one all day on Fido, guess their system hasn't been working very well.

Not sure if anyone can answer these right now but I do have a few questions I thought I would ask them anyways.
1. iCloud comes with a free @me.com email address and I suspect you will have to use this to take advantage of all the iCould has to offer. Will you be forwarding your other e-mail addresses (gmail, shaw) to the me.com address?
2. Does anyone know what is needed to be able to use iMessage on a WIFI ipad 2. Reading the web seems to indicate it will be linked to your Apple ID. I share my apple ID with my wife so we can share apps etc... we purchase. Can we set up a new appleID for iMessage to keep them separate?
3. How will other iOS5 users contact me by iMessage? By phone number for iPhone4 and appleID for ipad? How will they sync accross?
4.Will I be able to SMS non iOS5 users from my iPad? As I understand it iMessage is iOS5 to iOS5 (Like BBM) so I guess the answer will be no but not sure. I don't think non iMessage message will sync from my iphone$ to my iPad2
