The strange part is that the OP chose to cancel and then go to Safeway only 30 minutes later!
EDIT: read the first post again - 20 minutes later.
Christ, do you just randomly go into businesses, order custom things and then 20 minutes later, welch out on them? Good luck when you go buy a brand new car.

Win-win.

I'll give you $100 to eat the entire mango mousse cake with the special whip cream! hehe

Indeed for us to collectively make a ruling in this issue we need to sample the relevant cakes, and I view it as the OP's responsibility to provide such cake.

You're talkin' to the wrong Mod. Gorging one's self for CP's benefit is KG's department.

Dear Miss Manners,
Is it okay to cancel an order (no deposit) for a custom-made cake by voice-mail (last-minute)?
Gentle Reader,
Miss Manners says that is a jerk move.

Yamato should be giving Phillyfan free cakes for life for all this exposure. Half of us are already making plans to go down there. You can't buy this type of advertising.

This story would make for a good episode of:
-Curb Your Enthusiasm (as previously mentioned)
-Cake Boss
-Judge Judy
...any others?

This thread needs a MOD Challenge to the OP.
Something along the lines of:
 MOD CHALLENGE
The OP has 48 hours to supply pictures of him eating a Yamato cake (with proof of the date in the pictures) or he will be banned. However any other forumer may also go and purchase a Yamato cake and take pictures eating it and the OP will be banned (if they beat the OP to the punch).
Start the clock!

Ugh, I did a dumb thing in July. I bought a 2010 Jeep Wrangler and two days later remembered I hate Jeep Wranglers. So I called the dealership and made them this offer: give me my car back that I traded in and I'll give you $1500 for your wasted time. They agreed and all was right with the world. I also gave the salesman an apology card with $150 cash in it.
Point is, there are ways of welching without being a total a-hole about it.
