No, vets are just passing on the costs of doing medical business....which is expensive. They have to buy the same ridiculously expensive medical equipment (some of it is easily 30-40k), the same high-grade medicine that human hospitals do, and go to school for quite along time....but the big difference is that they or their patients aren't subsidized by the government like you are with your own doctor. In the end, those costs are past onto the patient...ie, you.

People need to realize that pets aren't cheap. Sure they are cute and cuddly, but at some point they will require medical attention. Unless an owner is ok with putting down their dog or cat, I think pet insurance is a no-brainer. Almost every pet needs a procedure or something eventually that will cost 1-2k.
