The problem with condo fees is like with everything else, the board has to cater to the lowest common denominator (ie the biggest whiner on the face of the planet).
With my condo every suite has a natural gas fireplace - in the winter it is needed as the water pipe heating only is good up until -30. Some of these neepsuges keep the heat turned up and the fireplace on the entire summer. I personally would LOVE if all insuite utilities were paid for by the user of said utilities.
When I petitioned last year to have all water pipe heating turned off when temp went above 15 - 2 people complained about it and so the board said no.
The other thing that rgmg about a condo (my condo) is they allow renters, and for the most part they are so disrespectful of public property that it drives up the costs for the rest of us.

Have you considered voting for board members who will change things to your liking, or better yet, getting involved on the board yourself? Most condo owners don't even bother to show up for the AGM, so getting yourself elected to a board position shouldn't be more difficult than just nominating yourself.

No. Not free. But charging me $120 to put some money on one of the credit cards it absurd. I would have been fine with $600 or so. $100 plus to photocopy some of the documents. etc etc

I can't say I enjoyed paying my wife's lawer bill that came in today. Not the largest bill I've paid, but certainly the least pleasant.

When we moved to the states my wife was still on maternity so she received that until it was done despite being in the states (that is 100% fine as she paid her taxes while in canada and worked what she needed to work to get that parental leave money).
The problem is the government despite having our US address began sending family support payments to us. Thinking we shouldn't be receiving them we contacted the appropriate department and they said we should be receiving them despite living in the states. Still thinking they couldn't find their ass with both hands we never spent the money.
The canadian government figures out we shouldn't have been getting those family support payments because we live in the US (duh!) and we need to pay it back. No problem, we pay it back immediately. No harm no foul.
I'm sure you can see where this is leading...
Tax time comes around, we do my wifes taxes based on the month we lived in canada and the 11 we lived in the states for the year. We take the money that never belonged to us and we paid back to the government in full off her income. Enclosed a letter of explanation with appropriate supporting documentation. Revenue Canada sends back a bill with interest saying she didn't pay all her taxes because $X of family support wasn't put on her income. Numerous hours on the phone (not kidding) we finally get someone on the phone at Revenue Canada that understands the situation and says to write a letter detailing everything and asking for a reassessment and that everything should be fine. Said we put that letter in with the original return but we did it again anyways.
Letter comes in the mail yesterday saying that they will not reassess the taxes and we must pay the bill complete (with even more interest now of course).
That would be the hardest bill to pay. If I planned on paying it. They can try to do what ever they like but ulitmately we are not paying taxes on money that in the end we did not receive.

Just kidding you. Clients should make sure when they get a quote, what is included. Some lawyers charge less, or not at all, for additional pay-outs.

I didn't actually pay this bill but....
A woman hit my side driver door and put a dent in it. The bill to do the body work was over $4,000.00. The other driver's insurance paid but that is ludicrous.
They claimed they had to repaint both driver side doors to do a paint match (the car was just barely over a year old).
Autobody work has gotten completely out of line with their rates. It's criminal what they are getting away with.

It was one of those things where shutting down a couple credit cards and paying the tax man was a condition of the loan. The other condition was that I use that lawyer. In hindsight I should not have accepted that but I didn't realize it meant he would charge so much. This was many years ago and I am much wiser now.

The fees, charges, time and trouble involved in my 'DIY Divorce' kit. The paperwork was SUPPOSED to be easy...but it never is. 12 trips to the courthouse later, hundreds extra in lost wages, hidden charges, bills and all sorts of other charges...I was wishing I had just sprung for the damn lawyer in the first place.

$2700 to a veterinarian for our cat.
Cat wasn't eating, basically became anemic. Took it into the vet who recommended we run some tests and keep it over the weekend on intravenous to replenish vital fluids.
5 days later, Vet has no real answers but presents a bill around $2700 for care, tests and drugs. Paid it, felt sick since I really couldn't afford it - but it's our only pet (emotions are involved).
Couple weeks later I discover ON MY OWN that our cat has food allergies and simply feeding him allergenic food fixes everything. And he's still a cat - a very expensive jerk of a cat.
Get pet insurance. Vets will rob you blind.

Both sides of my family are convinced that every once in a while, a cat just up and decides that it's not cost you enough of late, and does something to run up a huge vet bill.
Ours had an absolute freakout around January. Clawing, hissing, charging, attacking...and after a couple days in the vet (and a couple thousand later) we get no answers, but a 'somewhat' calm cat back.
We bring her home, and she's fine around my wife and I, but anytime we have company over...hours of freakout.
Eventually, she stops. We determine that she's now gone completely deaf (instead of the just mostly deaf we knew her to be) and the vet says "Yeah, that is a reaction to their going deaf sometimes. Time will fix it."
And it has. She's fine now, if a bit more standoffish than usual.

Most difficult bill....
Probably income tax time. That's always a bear. The strangest one was spending 5 figures on wall sconces for a client. Ended up spending almost $40K on lighting for that house. You definitely get all kinds as a decorator.

That, or maybe not spent all your time posting pictures in the hot women thread.

Haha. True enough. However, I went through the divorce around 11 years ago. I wasn't here posting hot women back then.
