Seen a lot of tweeting that the Marlins are closing in on John Buck, 3 years at 15 mill.

That's good. 31-50th overall pick helps for sure.

because if you look at FA 3B it is Beltre and then nobody (maybe Feliz but he'll be pretty coveted after Beltre signs). Bautista can play 3B so I'd rather sign/trade for a mediocre OF than sign a POS 3B (Mora? Tracy? F. Lopez?) Furthermore, Wells no longer has the range he used to in CF so if we can get a young OF'er like Rasmus/Upton it'd only improve the defense.

I think it depends on the acquisition price. If an good outfielder is easier and cheaper to acquire than an infielder, then why not. Bautista can move back to 3B just as easily as having him in the outfield.
It's one of those things where if there's a bargain out there, you at least have some options available to you.

I understand but I would bet, the Jays are exploring to make a trade to find another infielfder who is either a 2nd or 3rd baseman.
It has been mentioned many times by the Media and AA that Aaron Hill is open to play 3rd.
As for Bautista I see him as more of an Outfielder going forward.

I doubt Free Agency is where the Jays are looking, I would bet the focus will be on trades.
As for Wells, I still view him as the every day Center Fielder.

right but there are 12 teams interested in beltre so there is a lot of demand for a good 3B so if there is a 3B on the block the price will likely get jacked up as well.

True, I doubt the Jays are looking at Beltre. Remember the Jays could be looking for a 2nd Baseman.
Why assume they need a 3rd Baseman, between Hill, MacDonald they would be fine.

Wow, terrible trade for the marlins. Getting a utility player and a reliever for Uggla.
Basically an Inglett and Accardo for Uggla type return. Terrible.

not really...infante finished third in NL BA (third in MLB), not much power/speed but he gets a ton of hits. but the marlins definitely got way less than what i thought they'd want.
in terms of FA 2B it's essentially o-dog for nostalgic value and nothing else so they'd have to pursue via trade again in a seller's market

Infante has had 1 good season at the age of 29, which is extremely risky for players breaking out. Not exactly spectacular. Definitely not a great return at all.
Terrible trade for the Marlins. I seriously think they would've been better off keeping Uggla and taking the two picks.

Here is what the Jays offered according to Rosenthal:
Quote:
Jays' offer: RHP J. Roenicke, RHP D. Farquhar and either SS R. Goins or OF D. Mastroianni.

If that's what the Jays offerred and that's all the Marlins got from the Braves, my guess is Uggla is at least telling people he is going to the FA market next year.
Well, now it looks like we hope for Alex Gordon and hope his reclamation follows that of Brandon Morrow. Both young, highly touted and hopefully, later bloomers.

gordon will be an interesting one, he got moved to the OF last year though so he'll need to get some work in at 3b/1b again. the problem with gordon is he hasn't been excellent at anything whereas morrow was already whiffing a batter per inning. also sounds like the price for gordon isn't going to be cheap
Quote:
Royals officials tell Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star that the team isn't willing to dump Alex Gordon for little in return.
Several teams -- including the Blue Jays -- have expressed interest in Gordon, but the Royals appear determined to squeeze some value out of the former top prospect. The 26-year-old Gordon batted .215/.315/.355 with eight homers and 20 RBI in 242 at-bats this past season, making the move from third base to the outfield. He's done nothing to shed the "bust" label.

That's a good trade depending on if we're adding anything to it.
He's a 4th outfielder on a good team, and won't hurt you with his batting average (.280-.300) but the major bonus with him is that he's a very good base stealer. If you have him as primarily a bench player/defensive replacement with the emphasis as a pinch runner, then this is a very very good move.

no idea on the prospects we dealt, but rajai davis is a solid leadoff bat with great speed. it's this type of move which can allow the jays to move wells to RF and bautista to 3rd if they can't acquire a good third or second baseman

The trade was Farquar and Mangnuson for Davis. Relievers have no value, and minor league relievers have even less. I'm not sure Davis will be an every day player, but is definitely insurance in case we can't get a 3B or 1B.
