If the defenceman is worth taking, why would they agree unless it's a really good pick or prospect?
Because there will likely be several similar defenceman available, so Vegas can take one of the others and get an additional pick or prospect in the process.
From the Columbus/Minnesota expansion:
San Jose traded Jan Caloun, a ninth-round pick (Martin Paroulek) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, and a conditional pick in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft to Columbus on June 11, 2000, after the Blue Jackets agreed not to select Evgeni Nabokov.
From the Atlanta expansion:
In return for agreeing not to select certain unprotected players, the Thrashers were granted concessions by other franchises. The trades were officially booked as being for "future considerations":
Ottawa traded Damian Rhodes to Atlanta on June 18, 1999
Buffalo traded Dean Sylvester to Atlanta on June 25, 1999
Calgary traded Andreas Karlsson to Atlanta on June 25, 1999
Detroit traded Ulf Samuelsson to Atlanta on June 25, 1999
New Jersey traded Sergei Vyshedkevich to Atlanta on June 25, 1999
Phoenix traded Scott Langkow to Atlanta on June 25, 1999
After how Miller has played against us every game this season, I wouldn't be surprised if Treliving wanted to watch him against other teams to see if he plays the same way. A little surprising to see Miller play both games of a back to back as well.
I wouldn't mind seeing Treliving target Del Zotto either.
If the Flames paid to bring Kane in he would be protected before someone like Ferland.
Maybe. $5M for 1 more year. Buffalo might just want to dump the contract. Flames would probably be comfortable risking the exposure. Likely not worth worrying about though.

Illogical.
Kane has 20 goals and is playing great this season. Why would they want to dump that contract and why would someone deal assets just to expose him?
Ghost Bear isn't even a regular in the Flyers' lineup, I hear. Why on earth would you do that.
Gaudreau is probably worth about two top 15 picks and some hefty change right now, even with the so-so season. If you were to ever entertain moving him (and this conversation should end now because it wouldn't and shouldn't happen because he 100% will return to form at some point) then you'd better bring back a motherload.

He averages about 20 minutes per game (2nd for defensemen on the Flyers) and has been in almost every game this season, so I think he qualifies as a regular. He is going through a sophomore slump though.
Gaudreau is becoming an anchor at his salary if he doesn't start getting things together.

Completely wrong on both statements haha

Trading Gaudreau would be resetting the rebuild. Let's give this core one more year of underachieving then blow it up.
It should be looked at though. Treliving inherited pretty much this entire core and they were better three years ago. There becomes a time when you have to concede that whatever the plan is, it's not working.

I love this.
Gostisbehere is having a bad season, "He is going through a sophomore slump"
Gaudreau is having a bad season, but not near as bad as Gostisbehere, "Gaudreau is becoming an anchor"
Gostisbehere's track record prior to this year is 66 games of playing at a high level. This year his production is cut in half and is a -22.
Gaudreau has a 160 game track record of playing at a high level, and this year he struggles slightly but still on pace for 51 points.
Yet, "Ghost will rebound, but Johnny's career is trending downward."

I know Gaudreau is having an off year, but we all know his potential. You don't trade players with his skill-set, you build around it. Here's a reminder of what he can bring to this years playoff push as he was a big part of our last playoff push. For all those wanting to trade him please watch the whole video and tell me again if you want to trade him.

####.
Johnny has to sit down and take an opportunity to watch his own videos. Observe the differences between then and now and remember what his mindset was when he was executing so well.
