Last year I thought that nick Baptiste would be a great get for the flames. He would cost a bit more now, but nothing outlandish, I'd bet. Strong agitating RW that has a little offensive upside. Imagine chaisson in Dallas, or a consistently 2015 Bouma. His ceiling is higher than that. Wouldn't be disappointed if that happened.

If I were to take a stab

Bouma, Jokipakka,Shinkaruk/Poirer/Klimchuk, Fox/Hickey, 2nd (conditional 1st if flames make 3rd round)
For
Kane + Kulikov

Buffalo may laugh at that offer but I feel Kane is still a risk and Kulikov has disappointed. Maybe it is too much.

I also think Franson is a target

When you start throwing in 4th line forwards, depth defenseman and disappointing prospects to "add value", it's time to just delete the post and move on.

i pray Calgary stays far, far, far away from Evander Kane...

even if the price is 4th line fowards, depth DMen and mid round draft picks...

Leaning more towards Franson than Kulikov, myself.

Either or. I'd be okay with both. Fransons cap friendly too and a definite upgrade on old widedog.

It's tough to gauge the value for those players. Picks and prospects with salary is what I came up with. I didn't realize Fox and Hickey were disappointing prospects.

Kulikov's value can't be more than a 3rd but Kane is tricky. Personally I don't think he is in the block the guy scores every game these days

Jeff Paterson ‏@patersonjeff
Flames GM Brad Treliving staying here in VAN to scout #Canucks vs Flyers -- his team's last two opponents. Hmmm.

Flames are done with both too aren't they?

I wonder if the likes of Miller, Neuvirth or mason are being watched.

Remember the trade deadline scene from Moneyball? Billy Beane offered a player to a rival to take them out of the bidding for the player he really wanted to trade for. It was like watching a canny old carny running the shell game.

Philly is three points out of a wildcard spot, 10 days before the trade deadline. GMs in such situations are liable to do crazy things. Maybe Treliving is doing some extra homework on them so he can try to take advantage when the crazy happens.

Anything that ends up in us keeping the core intact and acquiring one of Horvat, Gudas, Tanev, Simmonds, Boeser, or Konecny, would be just awesome.

I can't see the Flames targeting any D man unless they are either a rental or not eligible for the expansion draft.

Why? Show me where Treliving has a track record of being snookered in trades.

Or the Flames can trade a pick/prospect to Vegas in order to protect a 4th defenceman. It's happened a lot in previous expansion drafts.

If the defenceman is worth taking, why would they agree unless it's a really good pick or prospect?
