Another thing that makes this the "dream scenario" is that Vancouver goes off the board. I'm as high on Bean as anyone, but taking him at 6 is probably a stretch.
The funny thing is, with Benning at the helm, this might actually happen. I would not be surprised to see Vancouver shock people with their pick. In a bad way.
Knowing his dad well, I'd feel really bad for the Beans if Jake had to play for Vancouver. They deserve better.
Man in all honesty, I would be choked as a Calgary kid to be drafted by the Canucks. I don't even know if I'd be able to hide it.
I'm guessing the sheer excitement of getting drafted, in the first round no less, will overcome any perceived disappointment of not getting drafted by your team.

Nope. I think I'd pull a Lindros. Or maybe quit hockey.
The ROW tiebreaker should work backwards for draft odd purposes. Since Calgary has more ROW wins, we should be rewarded with better draft odds if tied with the Nucks after 82.

Why? The draft is supposed to give the worse teams the chance at better players. Winning in Regulation or overtime is evidence of a better team than one that goes to the shootout or loses in overtime. I understand it would give the Flames a better draft pick but I don't understand why the Flames should be rewarded.
Would it be a faux pas to start a thread devoted to beyond the 1st round for the 2016 draft? It seems like there are several prospects and topics that can be covered, and this thread seems to be primarily about the top 3/7/10/12. I think a separate thread might spark some more conversation regarding the 2nd round and beyond.

I hear ya. I guess OT wins should be removed from the tie breaker now that it's 3 on 3. Should be Straight up Reg wins now.

In the current series at least (which is closely watched by scouts) Puljujärvi hasn't shown enough to be considered a lock for third overall, so maybe you'll get your wish even if Flames end up picking between 4-6. Of course it's just a handful of games but Laine has a totally different profile on his team right now.
Yeah it seems Laine has really separated himself from Puljujarvi. Laine would look so good in a Flames jersey. Be interesting to see if we hear any quotes from scouts going forward about Puljujarvi dropping out of the top 3.

Beyond stats, Laine is much more noticeable, inside the game in every shift, always looking to be the guy who decides the game. I can't even say much about Puljujärvi because there's so little to comment on.
Laine's Tappara is less talented than Puljujärvi's Kärpät, of course, which might make him more noticeable (and tonight Tappara's leading scorer is out), but that works against Laine too, especially on 5-versus-5 when the units don't really support his talents too well.
Anyway, OT coming.

The more you see/read about these two, it looks like Laine is becoming the concurrences #2 guy and Pull-an-RV is sliding a bit but I still see him as a great #3 pick.
