Yeah the canucks game is huge for all the wrong reasons. Hate those situations where beating a rival team actually helps them and hurts the flames long run.
With the canucks playing like they did against the oilers tonight and the wild eliminated, I expect the flames will grab 3 or 4 points, finish 6th and get bumped to 7th or 8th.
Damien Cox did his mock draft on sportsnet. Here are the results (Sportsnet also simmed the lottery)
This is my dream scenario to be honest. Matthews ends up somewhere I don't hate as much as Toronto or Edmonton and we get the RW I've been hoping for all year.

Another thing that makes this the "dream scenario" is that Vancouver goes off the board. I'm as high on Bean as anyone, but taking him at 6 is probably a stretch.
The funny thing is, with Benning at the helm, this might actually happen. I would not be surprised to see Vancouver shock people with their pick. In a bad way.
What NHL scouts are saying about Steelheads Nylander, McLeod, Day
Interesting that 3 of the guys that will be tough to peg are on the same jr team. I am hoping the Flames are not in the mix for any of them (except perhaps Day outside the first round).

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
CAN's U-18 team bolstered by high profile additions: Jakob Chychrun, Mike McLeod, Jake Bean, Tyson Jost, Dante Fabbro, Logan Stanley..
I"m still a fan of Day, to me he's kind of like Buzz was last year and I think there's a lot of potential. If the Flames end up with 3 second rounders and they don't trade any away, I think they should take a chance on Day with one of them.

Oh I could totally live with that.
I'd love for Winnipeg to get one of the top 3 too. That franchise needs some lucky breaks.
Winnipeg doesn't need anything. They can toil in obscurity forever and I'd be just fine with that. However, I will take them winning the lottery over Edmonton or Vancouver.
Edmonton takes the most nhl ready D if they're picking 4th

Flames lose to Vancouver tomorrow night in regular time
Winnipeg loses in OT to San Jose tomorrow night
Columbus beats Buffalo Friday night
Calgary beats Minnesota Saturday night
Buffalo beats Chicago Friday night
Winnipeg loses to LA in OT Saturday
Vancouver beats Edmonton Saturday
Flames 75pts
Winnipeg 76pts
Blue Jackets 76pts
Canucks 77pts
Flames finish the year with a win, and everyone goes home happy!
Bean would be great for the Canucks. Have you seen their defense? It's expansion-esque.
Having said that it would be stupid to pass over Tkachuk and Dubois for him because they are also putrid on the wings.
No matter what, all of the the Flames' Canadian rivals, and the Flames themselves, are going to get a major piece that will help them for years and years. In five years, I could see this draft being looked at as the TSN turning point for two or three rebuilding Canadian franchises.
Standings wise, if Calgary beats Vancouver tonight that would clinch the Flames finishing lower in the reverse standings than the Canucks. Would also put them 3 up on Columbus and one over Winnipeg, who will probably lose to San Jose.
The game tonight seems to be the lynch-pin between finishing 3/4 last or 7th last, not sure a meaningless win over the canuckleheads is worth that.
