When a dog can wipe your ass when you are old and in a home then we can accommodate dogs in the same manner as children. When a dog is the future consumer that supports your retirement we can give them the same latitude.
Whether or not you personally choose to have children you benefit and in fact need someone’s children to exist. This isn’t true about dogs.

after that description i expected 'oilers tee shirt'
i'm with you Sliver - my kids don't scream. they know it's completely unacceptable behavior (**they do know it's ok to scream if someone needs help)

The only thing I gladly imparted the importance of to my kids is that they should never, ever chew with their mouths open or talk with food in their mouth. It disgusts me to no end.
… also to never wearing matching clothes with a significant other in public.

Also, kids will grow out of the "run around screaming" phase eventually, and even when they're in that phase, they go inside to sleep at night.
Dogs never outgrow the "bark at anything and everything" phase and can often be at their worst during the night.

I'm pretty sure most dogs can be trained to not bark. It just takes owners to actually put in an effort.

Sure, most dogs are well-behaved and most kids are well-behaved. They're not the ones we're talking about.

No one was saying kids shouldn’t exist, just what level of noise was acceptable. Screeching is a valid gear grinder. Not talking typical laughing and playing noise, or scraped my knee cry. That ear splitting scream that seems to come from some is ridiculous. Screeching and those power wheel things with the hollow plastic wheels.

I wasn’t commenting on the validity of the gear grinder. I was commenting on the absurdity of comparing undesirable behaviours from children to undesirable social behaviours from dogs. It’s a ridiculous comparison to ever even contemplate.

I grab a bottle of vodka and pour it into my ear.
I can hear this little bastard fighting for its life and drowning.

OK, get dressed and drive to the hospital.
its 1:30 am and no one is there. I see the nurse immediately

FYI, according to Google, the average gestation period for moths is 4-7 days.

No, hours of over-the-top screeching isn't "awesome" at all. I'm tempted to say something to the parents, but I'm not sure how it would be received.

Yeah, that’s a tough one. The parents are obviously oblivious. But you’re going to have to say something eventually.

In cases like this a gentle passive aggressive response could work. Have you ever listened to the album This is Exile by Whitechapel at an obnoxious volume?

I would say bad behaviour is unacceptable regardless of your potential benefits to society. You don’t get a pass because you may contribute at some point. If that were the case, service dogs that bark at night get a pass too.
Kids, dogs, adults, etc that behave like dickheads are all equal dickheads.

Maybe it has something to do with the just moving into a new place. I would wait for a while to see if it becomes a habit, and if so, I think you should consider having a talk with the parents.
I don't think screeching kids necessarily means bad parents. I would assume they were good people, wouldn't want to disturb the neighbors, and would take what action was necessary to keep the kids more quiet.
However, if you get an unsympathetic and negative response, what have you got to lose?
Maybe suggest them getting a sand box. That always kept my kids quiet.

after almost 1 year of waiting, my wife got word yesterday that her new car has arrived in kelowna.
we are trading her current car in so we had to go to the dealership today for them to do a test drive and figure out how much $ they will give us for the current car.
the dealership is very family and dog friendly - i think we saw 3 dogs as soon as we walked in. when we were talking with the sales guy there were a number of families in the building with young (just crawling) children.
now the gear grinder... 'dude bro' wearing his 'bad boyz' hoodie and flat brim hat on sideways (no white oakleys... it's rainy and overcast today) comes into the dealership with... a pitbull. then gets all ticked off becuz he's told he can't bring his dog into the building. of course he makes a scene becuz "dude bro".
i just don't get people... what part of you thinks it's a good idea to bring a pitbull into an environment like that - give your head a shake.
i tip my hat to the employees of the dealership for handling the situation the way they did - good for them!
