In the end, Graham picked the low bid and it burned them. It's their own fault. A little bit of common sense could've saved them here.
I should have clarified further there. Augescon was prequalified because they had previous done Similar work, probably often, and had the equipment and experience necessary to do the job. IIRC, the prequalification for the subcontractor specifically asked for previous similar work done. A full examination of the technical capabilities, really.

Yeah, that wouldn't surprise me. I've been through the same pre-qual process with the CoC.

To be clear, I don't pin this on the City at all. I know if I was Graham I would be asking questions if I was about to use a sub that was cheaper when shipping from Spain, then something relatively local, but I appreciate the allure of the lowest bid. I just don't feel bad at all for Graham when it bites them in the a$$.

I dont understand why Graham wouldnt have had their inspectors or other 3rd party inspectors inspect the product in spain during fabrication. Its fairly coomon to have a resident inspector when using low cost centers to execute work.

So do I, but the Facebook invite from that pinko-commie Druh Farrell said the event is happening on the south side.

Sweet, my wife works in Kensington and has a set parking spot to use. I just might be able to make it.

Did they remove the temporary bridge already? Looks like it from that helicopter picture.

I'm looking forward to trying out the bridge. It's not going anywhere so might as well learn to love it.

A little more info on the opening day of the bridge, from Druh's twitter feed:

I'm sad that they left out "lattes" from the description of things happening.

With the % of pilings that were driven correctly I'm not so sure about that...

As long as the piles were driven, They should be plenty adequate.

I guess they opted against the "give peace a chance" campaign...

Hey at least they didn't put "drum circles" in the events.

I think we need a CP contingent there to take care of any that may try to spring up.

Somebody's gotta streak across the bridge on opening day.

Maybe they were concerned that all those rhythmic beats would make the bridge go all Tacoma Narrows on us.
