Oh I know. And I get that his stock is rising. But knowing the pedigree and especially after meeting the kid today (he’s a specimen) I’m firmly in the “hope he’s there at 12” camp.
I hope so. After really thinking about the Gio discussion, we don’t have anything in the pipeline for top pairing dmen. Other than valamaki I’m not sure we even have a top 4 dman in the prospect pool. I’m hoping one of the d drop and flames snag them.
We were in the bottom quarter of the league for offense from defensemen, so while drafting a D-man this year doesn't really help us out for next season, I wouldn't mind snagging one to build up our prospect pool on the backend-if the right d-man came along.

Well without giving away too much, but I also don’t want anyone thinking I’m a #####-talker. We’re at the same lake this weekend and share mutual friends of his parents.

Suspect more the latter. Hockey culture is toxic including how women are thought of and treated. Now the ugliness of that reality is just being exposed more. Hopefully it provokes change.

I think you are seeing less of a tolerance. Most of these character issues would probably been chalked up to "boys being boys" a decade or more ago and probably wouldn't have affected draft rankings at all.

The kid was 17. Im100 % positive star players have done worse, he's owning it with is showing some maturity. He's probably been the most popular and talented guy in his life so far, put him with a support system that won't kiss his butt and tell him he's amazing and he'll grow up.
Better people have done worse.

I would be surprised if Cossa goes beyond pick 20.
The Oilers have seen him play in Edmonton for a few years now. They need an elite goaltending prospect.
I hope someone like St. Louis takes him first just to spite the Oilers. But I doubt Nashville and Winnipeg do.

This is never an excuse for anything. I wish this would go away so we can have reasonable discussions.

It's not an excuse. It's a reason. A 17 year old boy who has likely been put on a pedestal and probably thinks he's above everyone else is thinking with the wrong head and does something stupid.
What he did was wrong. I'm not defending his actions. At all. What I am saying is that this does not define who he is or who he will be. It's a red flag for sure but with proper guidance this kid can still turn out to be an amazing person. He has skill that comes naturally, he needs to learn some humility.
What I meant by the "better people have done worse" comment is that there have been people who have done worse things at a young age but grew up and learned from their mistakes. Interview the kid, have a serious conversation with him and see from there. If they draft him they can help him become a better person.
I don't think ts unreasonable to think a 17 year old boy can't mature, attone for his mistakes and grow into a wonderful person and great hockey player.

Nobody does. But what others have gotten away with is irrelevant. It doesn’t add anything to the discussion.
I was saying that as an example. I'm not talking about what they got away with. Kids do dumb things, get caught. People know about it. Kid learns, grows, matures then becomes a better person.
Everyone makes mistakes. He didn't force himself on anyone, he didn't kill anyone, he didn't even steal anything. He can still learn from his mistake. Even if you want to count this as 2 strikes, he still deserves another chance.

How was he thinking with the wrong head? It's not like sending out the photo was going to help him get laid, I mean if anything it got in the way... Nah, this was about humiliation and power. He's getting help, but I'd be perfectly fine not having to cheer for him if the Flames pass.

Maybe it was but maybe it was a 17 year old boy who wanted to brag about being with an older girl. Maybe it was the first time he was with someone and didn't know what to do. Maybe he was being bullied into doing it. Maybe he did it because he felt peer pressure to do it. Maybe she wanted him to do it. Until we onow the whole story we can't know for sure. That's why I suggest at least interviewing him. I find it hard to believe he would willingly throw away his future to do this.
I'd be fine with it too but I would be excited if they drafted him.
Maybe it's his way of saying he wants to be drafted by Columbus.

No way is it worse. I don't think we give enough credit to the next generation here and how much they have improved on the misogyny, homophobe and racism. Remember when we had to pretend to hear "rag it" because saying "f######" was too taboo now? Every second word was f##### not too long ago on the ice. I mean this story is only a story because hockey players spoke up about it, before they would have been trading their own photos.
Look how there's outrage over this, consensual sex but a secret photo taken. Despicable action and potentially career threatening. Yet who here remembers when Lemieux watched his teammate rape a woman than called her a ####ing bitch? He's one of our heroes of the sport.
Spoiler!
Quote:
It is undisputed that Lemieux had consensual intercourse with one of the women in room number 1001 and that Quinn contemporaneously *897 had intercourse with the complainant, Doe, in the same room. What is disputed is whether Quinn's penetration of Doe was with her consent or was forced. Doe and her friends told police that Quinn made sexual advances toward her and that, even though she told Quinn she did not want to have intercourse with him, he continued his advances and forcibly penetrated her. Lemieux then allegedly called Quinn away from Doe momentarily, and Doe and the other woman who was still in the room tried to leave. However, according to the women, Quinn returned and, this time wearing a condom, again penetrated Doe. Doe then crawled out of the room into the hallway, where she eventually vomited. Her friend had to knock on the door in order to retrieve some of Doe's clothes. The friend stated that Lemieux answered the door and gave her the clothes, but that in the meantime the players had soaked the clothes in beer. Lemieux and Quinn also allegedly called the women "####ing bitches" and, concerned that the women might cause "a scene" in the hallway, threatened to call security if the women did not leave.
What about Scott Stevens and friends raping the girl in the limo? Or Killer and his underage babysitter that got him traded to Calgary?
The major difference is that this wouldn't have been news worthy all that long ago because hockey culture was soo much worse not long ago.
