You’re right that his stats rose each year but he should have way higher production at this point in his career. He’ll be 26. He is what he is at this point and it’s an upside of a third liner at best.

The back end is going to be changing with the upcoming trades. Would be nice to deal Dube for said package to ensure the Hanifin and Lindholm deals revolve around picks instead of too many filler guys to fill the roster.
I don't see any coasting in Dube's game at all.

Huge lack of confidence right now.

Nobody at this point is going to give up futures for Dube. It is dollars in, dollars out, and a pick gets included to the team who gets the obvious worse player, or takes on the higher dollars.

a) Negotiate a show-me deal with Dube. He does bring some value to this organization with his leadership (especially with younger players), hits hard, skates exceptionally well, and being the fittest Flame helps other players to become better too (especially young ones who may not know what it takes to be a pro yet - if this team is wanting to get younger, there is some value here). He has also had an upward trajectory every single season up until this one, with this one being downright awful.

b) Don't qualify him and let him walk as a UFA this off-season.

There has been a lot of change in Calgary lately, and he won't be the first one to have a 'hiccup' season while adjusting to a new coach/system. Huberdeau, Mangiapane, Lindholm and Sharangovich were all showing various levels of uselessness (and even outright hurting the team). Now every player has rebounded. I don't think anyone on this site can definitively say that Dube's career is over, or that he can't rebound here. Sometimes things just snowball, and maybe he just needs a couple of lucky bounces to start snowballing the other way?

I would rather keep him than trade him for Duclair. 7 teams for Duclair now, and Duclair has a higher cap hit. You can walk away from both this off-season, but I would say that Dube's one 'blip' thus far probably makes him more likely to rebound vs another player who has had many blips on many teams, and still no team thinks enough of him to keep him.

Could very well be right. I haven’t watched all games being in Ontario but haven’t noticed him in any games this year. I strongly believe in if you’re skilled enough and putting enough effort the results will come. If the results haven’t fully come one of those oversimplified things aren’t there.

Don't need to trade a younger guys. Dube, Mangipaine, Ruzicka will be our main players next year and they will improve at least in individual points.
Opposite, we should looks other teams' Dubes and Ruzickas for next year as part of return /like a cap dump/ and give them opportunity to increase their trade value.

I kinda disagree. Who would you deal to get those guys? And if they falter you’re left with even more roster filler. We have trade able assets right now. The UFAs and Markstrom. Perhaps even Kadri.

Here are the forwards we have signed/under team control for next year:
Code:
LW C RW
Huberdeau* Zary*(?) Sharangovich*
Mangiapane* Backlund* Coleman*
Pelletier Kadri* Pospisil
Honzek Dube Coronato
Klapka Ruzicka Duehr
* Guaranteed a top 9 spot

You have 2 potential top 9 spots for the rest. How will Ruzickas or Dubes get a better role? Who will they beat, which prospects will play on the 4th line?

Moving Dube would be like the reverse of the Toff trade. Picking up an older more proven guy for a younger guy that’s struggling but shown flashes of ability. Not where we need to be in this stage of the rebuild. I’m all for trading Lindholm for a younger player that matches Duclair stylistically but has upside though.

To me that's right. He skates hard. He just finds himself either alone or makes plays way too quickly. It doesn't help that he plays with Ruzicka who IMO is way more useless.

Dube has been pretty disappointing. I picked him as a player to really establish himself this season, but he hasn't. He looks like he is working hard and trying, but just nothing is coming for him. It might be best for his career if he goes to another team to get a fresh start. Are there any similar players out there who make roughly the same amount and maybe need a change of scenery?

The good news is that his contract isn't crazy or long term. I could see a team taking a flyer on him. We probably wouldn't get anything much in return though.

Tough part is I don't think any team is going to want take this player based on his play this year combined with the WJC linkage.

Best bet is to bring him back and hope he rebounds at this point.

Dube seems to always skate himself into a corner, even when he’s along the boards. he skates really fast with the puck, stops and tries spinning back around. i think he needs to try using his speed to drive harder toward the net, cause a little havoc.

What a nightmare that would be if Dube, Mangiapane, and Ruzicka were our main players next year! On a positive note we would be at the bottom of the league. All 3 of those guys should be moved if possible.
