It is sad, I do not want to trade Anderssson even. But all 3 need to go. We should be actively tanking if we want to compete one day for a cup. I just don't see any argument for keeping these players.

The nice thing is no one is really tanking yet this season and only Vancouver started selling, so you could almost secure at least second last
And the other nice thing is that there seems to be 3 or 4 players that are roughly the same level, so if you are in this range, it doesn't matter if you win the lottery, you take whoever is left and hopefully get an elite player

Yea who would have thought Marner was the glue in Toronto.
Hubby could very well be a fit, and Brad is on the chopping block so he may be stupid enough to do it.

What makes you confident in making this statement? Weegar has been pretty awful this season, while Rasmus has taken his game to another level.

The funny thing is that might actually make sense - the Huberdeau part
The problem is how can you make it so Toronto can work it into their cap
If you took Domi and Jarncrok you get to $6million . Assume Flames were willing to retain $2million a year , that still leaves Toronto 2.5$ million short
Really hard ignoring other factors to even get a salary cap complaint trade to work

I don't know about Marner being the glue. But if you take a 100 point player and replace him with a 30 to 40 point player, there is going to be a huge drop off. Especially when the player you lose is one of the best play making wingers in the league.

Cap hit, with the certainty that you have a player locked into 6.25m for 5 more years. I would argue that's more value than what we'd get for Andersson. I doubt it happens, but it's a thought.

We are not starving for cap space and in fact currently will need that 10.5 to hit cap floor when the others are traded. He may not be worth the value but he is a good “pro” vet and will be fine in the long run to have around the young guys.

The Canucks traded a player who needed to be traded, and got current assets back.
They haven’t shown they are selling yet.

Johnston and LeBrun with their predictions on a few players.
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/691...shared_article
LeBrun: Vegas Golden Knights
There’s always a chance that the Flames re-sign the pending UFA, top-four right-handed defenseman. But it’s not the likeliest outcome at this point.
Why a trade to Vegas? Well, to start, it came pretty close to happening in June. And in my mind, the Knights still have a hole in their lineup from Alex Pietrangelo missing the season. The problem is that Vegas would have to find a new way to entice the Flames, as the Knights have traded away some of the players who were in the June trade discussion (such as Nicolas Hague to the Nashville Predators).
But here’s another reason I like Vegas as a fit: The Flames know that in a perfect world, they trade Andersson with an agreement that he’ll sign an extension with his new team, to augment the trade return. Andersson was willing to extend with Vegas in the summer as part of a potential trade. Let’s see both clubs revisit this scenario then.
Johnston: Los Angeles Kings
Another team that explored a trade fit for Andersson last summer, the Kings remain a sensible destination with a blue line that could use a jolt. He’s produced much more offensively than any current Los Angeles defenseman this season and brings a swagger to go with his all-situations ability.
What isn’t clear is whether Andersson would consider signing an extension with the Kings after he showed a reluctance to do that when the teams spoke last offseason. The price needed to get the Swede out of Calgary will likely be steep, especially for a team looking at him as a rental.
Still, veteran Kings general manager Ken Holland has never shied away from taking a big swing during his Hall of Fame career.

Vegas doesn't have any assets we would want. I just don't see a fit there for us.

Nine months after trading a 1st, a 4th, and one the Maple Leafs’ top prospects (Minten) for Brandon Carlo, the Wizard is trying to shed him as a potential cap dump.

The only reason he's not a complete disaster for the team is because they suck right now so it really doesn't matter but I also don't think we need to pretend like he's doing anything other than the bare minimum.
|
He could sulk and be a locker room cancer like James Neil was. He could just float around doing nothing and set a poor example to our young players, since he's guaranteed to get paid and will never sign another NHL deal. He could actively try and sabotage the coaching staff, spew nonsense in the media, and create divisions in the locker room because he's upset about playing on a bottom feeder team that focuses on Defense-first.
I'm no fan of the Huburdeau contract and fully agree that he's the most overpaid player in the league, but the situation could be far worse than it is. He's generally maintained a positive attitude throughout his time in Calgary and reinvented his game into a more physical, modern power forward style (versus the pure run and gun style he played before). It was a terrible signing and we're not getting rid of him, but he's not actively hurting the team - especially since we have tons of cap space and the cap is expected to go up considerably over the next 5 years.
