The ubiquitous nature of all of the new arenas (Place, Center, Field, etc.) is kind of the point.
The corporations pay big bucks for the naming rights. They don’t want people calling the Scotiabank Saddledome ‘the dome’. They want people to say the name of their company.
No one will say ‘we’re going down to the Place to watch game’. They’ll say ‘we’re going down to Scotiabank to catch a game’. And that’s what they want.
That’s why we likely won’t see any more building names with character anytime soon.
I don’t like it. But that’s where we are.
