As long as Conroy doesn't significantly overpay for a player on a long term deal, or losses one of Lindholm, Hanifin, or Tanev for nothing, I will be happy.

I'm more worried about throwing $60M at Hanifin or $68-70M at Lindholm. That or the Flames clearly overpaying a guy like Killorn in free agency, that then proceeds to fall off a cliff.

It's easy for fans to say 'I don't care - sell anyway', but there will be a very real impact on the players, if that happens.
If you return younger roster players they won't see it as throwing the towel in on this season.

He said he wanted to get younger and more skilled without letting UFAs walk for nothing and so far Conroy has done exactly that.

What is taking so long is probably the ask from Conroy: picks and skilled 22-24 year olds that can’t quite make really good teams where the consensus on the player is they are destined to contribute at the NHL level.

Kids with term that come in and start contributing in 2-3 months once they learn the system.

That fits my definition of a retool perfectly.

I think a bubble team walking three free agents to July 1st would be a very concerning day for the franchise.

No doubt about that.

Every indication is that won't be the case.

But do they try and re-sign all three? Can't see it personally so I think it likely that we see the plan carried out as we understand it.

The problem is teams that will want the UFAs are rarely willing to give up those kind of guys. They need to have them available for playoff runs when players get injured. Teams will be pushing to give up picks, B-level prospects and reclamation projects.

I wonder if the Flames have kicked the tires on some of Anaheim's forwards. At some point that team has to stop icing a d-core of Fowler and the AHL friends.

I wonder if the Flyers have played themselves into a position where they may be interested in a player like Lindholm? See if you can shake loose a player like Frost and a prospect like Bonk? Take that and run IMO.

They seem pretty committed to the long term plan. I don’t think they’ll be looking to trade young prospects like Bonk for a UFA.

Nashville moved some guys last year while in the hunt and they are no worse for wear. They look pretty good this year to. It’s just good asset management to move UFAs unless you are an actual contender.

I know! That’s why his job is hard with a high fail rate.

4-5 teams have a legit shot at a cup this year. Adding any of our UFAs as depth guys would really give them an advantage.

Everyone wants the assets we want. Everyone wants a Cup but only a few teams have a legit shot. They have to decide what they want more, assets or the Cup.

Vegas is another team I wonder about.

Eichel is hurt now. They have Stephenson, Marchessault, and Martinez expiring at seasons end which opens up some room to be able to re-sign Lindholm potentially.

Don't really have the top end prospects but pretty much have all of their own draft picks still and I think the Flames would have a lot of interest in a guy like Nic Hague.

No, it's not on the players (on individual levels). They are working hard and competing, and getting themselves into the playoff picture, and then management pulls the rug out from under them. What fans don't get is that players don't look at the franchise and evaluate the past 30 years or the next 10 - they care about the team they are on right now, and they are trying to win.

Sharangovich is definitely helping in that regard.

I said it is partly on the players, and it is. They are the ones playing and not winning enough and they have now put management in the position where they will have to make a tough decision, and unlike the players the management does have to think about the next 10 years.

Sometimes I wish Lindholm is traded to Colorado, Vegas or LA and Coleman to Dallas just make those teams got better and crush Oilers in POs.

The only UFA they traded was Granlund for a 2nd round pick. Ekholm and Neiderreiter both had term left on their deals and Jeannot was a pending RFA. They also lost Eeli Tolvanen on waivers which would get a GM the dunce sentence from many here.

So yes they sold, but I think they wanted a major shift as it was around that time they announced Poile would be moving aside for Trotz. They still bought out Duchene, and ate 50% of RyJo's contract to give him away after the season concluded.

I don't know if the Flames have the appetite to jetison players like Nashville did. You can argue that they should. But I think Nashville wss getting rid of players that they no longer wanted. They went out and signed O'Reilly, Nyquist, and Luke Schenn to multi year contracts. So that's not necessarily rebuilding moves there.

My ultimate dream is knocking them off as the 8 seed, after trading our UFAs, in the upset of the year.

No amount of good food is worth finding yourself in Toronna

Didn’t see this posted anywhere, but Cody Hodgson has signed a PTO with the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL. Retired in 2016.
