Just imagine if the Flames stay in that 9th spot and have a legit chance and Conroy moves two UFAs anyway.
New steely eyed direction for the Flames and we're all happy?

Trading the UFA's is going to clear the air at least.

I really hope he is able to swing a trade similar to the Toffoli one for Lindy.
Sharangovich has been such a great addition to the team.

At this point I feel like Lindholm could probably moved and we'd still have a competitive chance. Losing Tanev or Hanifin early would definitely tank our chances to stay that wildcard.

What I don’t want is the Flames think they are playoff contenders and don’t trade Lindholm and Hanifin. Only to once again fall just short or lose in the 1st round, then watch Lindholm and Hanifin walk for nothing. I have seen this story play out all too often in the Flames past history. But at the same time I know making the playoffs and getting hot at the right time would be awesome. I don’t know how to feel anymore

I agree, but I will point out, having them walk is not the worst case scenario. The worst case scenario would be overpaying them. Or letter them walk and then replacing them with overpaid players.

I am fully on board with that.
But it would have a big impact on some of the players. How does a vet like Kadri react, if the team trades Lindholm and Tanev, despite having a very realistic shot at the playoffs?
It's easy for fans to say 'I don't care - sell anyway', but there will be a very real impact on the players, if that happens.

Yeah I could see it irritating the players, but it's on them too. If they are good enough to compete maybe they should have won more games sooner. They didn't, and now it's up to management to do what is right for the future.

The only scenario I don't want to see is "just see how it plays out" past the deadline.
a) sign the UFA's to contracts you are comfortable with, and if they won't sign
b) move UFA's for the best returns you can get
It really should be this simple.

Yea, I would love it if we traded our UFA's even as we fight for a wild card. Making the wild card would be fun, but isn't something to mortgage a future for. We should aim higher, and do our best asset management wise unless we are a sure fire top 3/4 in our conference.

My guess if they are in that situation is they re-sign Hanifin , trade lindholm and keep Tanev with no extension in place.

The Flames should definitely trade Lindholm, and if there is enough demand Tanev. Both are great players, but I don't see them as essential to the way the Flames are playing right now.
I wouldn't mind seeing the Flames re-sign Hanifin. He's only 26 (just about 27), which is still young for a top pairing D-man. The Flames can always trade him later, and he may have more value extended than as a rental. The Flames can maybe move Hanifin in a hockey trade for a top line forward, instead of selling him for a late 1st rounder.

Nashville did it last year.
We keep all these players and lose them in the summer after getting knocked out the first round and that will destroy the team for next year

Just imagine if he doesn’t. More of the same old same old? More of the team being okay with middling performance and outcomes? Same old spineless weak kneed management we love/hate? What’s the feeling if that happens? Hello darkness my old friend… ?

I'd take that over them signing Lindholm to a 9 million dollar deal

The Flames dodged a huge bullet this off season. If Lindholm had taken that deal, it would have been a disaster. People complain about the Kadri and Huberdeau/Tkachuk moves, but the Kadri is playing great, and the Flames have Weegar to show for the Tkachuk shenanigans. An 8 year $9+ million dollar Lindholm deal has no redeeming qualities right now.
